PrtKviinm OO ICM O KIWANIS CLUB HONORS SCOUTS Col. Wm. A. Blair, of Win ston-Salem, Speaker at Weekly Meeting KIWANIS SIGNS ERECTED Col. Wm. A. Blair, of Winston- Salem, who organized the first Boy Scout troop in that city in 1912, was speaker at the weekly meeting of the Elkin Kiwanis club at Hotel Elkin, Thursday evening, the local Boy Scout troops and their leaders being guests of the club. Col. Blair urged the Kiwanians to give the scouts every consider ation, stating that boys are the things men are made of, and that while Elkin has a number of wonderful assets, the greatest of these are its young people. Mr. and Mrs. J. Mark Mc- Adams, who have been very ac tive in the work of the Boy and Girl Scouts, were presented a Chatham blanket each, which was donated by J. L. Lillard and presented by Kiwanian W. M. Al len. The program was In charge of Kiwanian E. E. Hayes, who is chairman of the committee on boys' and girls' work. The speaker was introduced by Banks Newman, scout commis sioner, of Winston-Salem. Each member of. the troops was asked to stand and introduce himself and give the number of the troop to which he belongs. During the business session Franklin Folger, chairman of the membership committee, intro duced Rev. J. S. Haitt as a new member of the club. The house committee, of which Gilbert Meed is chairman, announced that Ki wanis Welcome signs had been placed on the main thoroughfares leading into the city. F. W. Graham was a guest of Kiwanian Hugh Royall; J. L. Lil lard, with Kiwanian E. E. Hayes, and Edworth Harris with Kiwan ian Carl Boyles. Due to the fact that the Ki wanis room of the hotel is being redecorated, the meeting this week will be held in the main dining room of the hotel, starting at seven o'clock. Doctor (after examining pa tient) : "I don't like the looks of your husband, Mrs. Brown." Mrs. Brown: "Neither do I, doctor, but he's good to our chil dren." Rose returned home Saturday, after spending several days with his daughter, Jessie Lee, at Fieldale, Va. She recently underwent an operation for ap pendicitis, and is getting along nicely. Friends of Miss Beulah Smith regret to learn that she is ill with mumps. All hope for her a speedy recovery. Misses Alene and Billy Joe Smith were the week-end guests of their grandfather, Mr. Eli Smith. Friends of Mrs. Mozelle Boyd will be glad to know that she is improving from several weeks' illness from scarlet fever. Mr. Tal Sidden has recently moved to Winston-Salem to make his home with his children. He was widely known throughout this section, and will be greatly missed. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Lewis were the week-end guests of Mrs. Lewis' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Darnell, of Roaring River. Mrs. Arthur West was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barker, of Little Mountain, last Friday. Rev. Grant Cothran of Dough ton, was the Saturday night guest of Rev. and Mrs. George Curry. Friends of Little Miss Nellie Gray Smith will be glad to know that she is improving from an attack of mumps.
