Speas visit ed Dr. and Mrs. Coppedge at Nashville, N. C., Sunday and Monday. Mrs. Lesdiski Matthews and Mr. and Mrs. Alton Matthews of Lakeview, visited relatives of the Boonville community for several days last week. Mrs. P. G. Scott of Shoals, has returned to her home, after spending several days with her brothers and sisters in this imme diate community. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Shore were the Sunday guests of Mrs. Neva Reece. Miss Sadie Hobson has returned to her work in Charlotte, after spending several days with her mother, Mrs. Alice Hobson. Miss Nadine Burgess of Wash ington, D. C., returned to her home after visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ransom Burgess, the latter part of last week. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Martin and Mr. and Mrs. Willie Fleming from near Amelia, Virginia, returned to their homes Monday, after visit ing friends and relatives here and in the surrounding community Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Steelman and children, Arlis Nell and Ben ny, and Betty Lou Steelman of Elkin, were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Atwater at Bur lington. Mrs. Robert Gaither, a teacher in the local school,. spent the past week-end at her home at Cool Springs, near Statesville. Mr. and Mrs. James Shore of Winston-Salem, were the week end guests of their parents. Mrs. Enos Stinson and Mrs. Dovie Burton are convalescing from their illnesses at their homes. ) ——— Methodist Young Women's Society Meets The Young Women's Missionary Society of the Boonville Metho dist church met at the home of Mrs. Geo. Williams for the Feb ruary meeting. A very interest ing and enlightening program on the religious conditions the world over was given by different mem bers. The program opened with a song by the group. A brief bus mess session was held. The sec retary, Miss Kate Williams, read the minutes of the last meeting. Mrs. Elizabeth Fletcher, the pres ident, rendered the devotionals. Then the general topic of the pro gram, '"The World Conference At Madras, India," was discussed. Those discussing parts of the material were Miss Grace Hayes, who gave "Outstanding Features of the World Christian Commun ity"; Mrs. Ruth Fletcher, Mrs. Kate Key, and Mrs. James Am bum. It was revealed that at the Ma dras Conference missionaries from practically every country of the world came together to dis cus s their kindred problems. Some of the missionaries from countries at the present time at war with each other declared that they were common freinds in Je sus Christ. The program closed with a song and benediction. Pleasant Ridge Our Sunday school is doing fine. We had 107 present Sun day. Rev. Frank Peeler, of Taylors ville, will fill his regular appoint ment here Sunday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock. Mr. B. W. Carter attended the Regional Church Conference held at the First Baptist church in North Wilkesboro Thursday, Feb ruary 22. Mr. Carter gave us a brief outline Sunday of the pro gram and the various speakers on the program. His talk was en joyed by all who attended. Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Carter and family, and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Harris visited Mr. and Mrs. George Carter, of the Benham community, Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Carter and Alex and Fred visited Mrs. John Rose, of Arlington, Sunday. The small son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Carter is listed among the sick. Little Miss Nancy Gray Luff man is also on our sick list. THE ELKIN TRIBUNE, ELKIN, NORTH CAROLINA Presbyterians To Hold M Tuesday Evening Members of the Presbyterian church will have a Stewardship dinner-meeting Tuesday evening, March 5. The meeting will be held in the high school building and members of the home ec onomics class of the school will serve the dinner. J. M. Wells, of Winston-Salem, well known attorney, will be speaker for the meeting and Dr. R. E. McAlpine, of Winston- Salem, who served as pastor of the local church for some time, will also be present. The day of the meeting falls on the birthday anniversary of Dr. McAlpine. In addition to Dr. McAlpine and Mr. Wells, other out-of-town guests are expected. The object of the mpeting is to present the plans of the church for the Stewardship program for the coming year and to bring to gether members and friends of the church in an evening of social fellowship. Those who plan to attend the dinner are asked to see Dan Bar bour or Charles Poplin. A very interesting demonstration was given on making cottage cheese, after which all the wom en filled out their canning bud get for the year. Delicious re freshments were served by the hostess. Mr. Harvey Burrus made a business trip to Winston-Salem last Monday. THIRD DR. KILDARE PICTURE IS COMING "The Secret of Dr. Kildare," third of the "Dr. Kildare" series, with Lew Ayres and Lionel Bar rymore heading the cast, is the attraction at the Lyric theatre here next Monday and Tuesday., The scientific detective ro mance, based on Max Brand's popular story, deals with a beau tiful girl's strange secret terror, and the detective work of Ayres, as Dr. Jimmy Kildare, to trace it down to the plot of a fanatical nurse and a quack doctor. In the dramatic climax, under the guid ance of Barrymore as Dr. Gilles pie, he cures her blindness by practical mental suggestion. TO PRESENT PLAY AT NORTH ELKIN SCHOOL Friday evening, March 1, Roe I Nero's players will present the play, "Rebecca of Sunnybrook iFarm," at North Elkin school.
