News of Jonesville Miss Virginia Lineberry, Editor Mrs. Parks Groce spent Satur day in Stateevtlle where she visit ed her sister, Mrs. J. M. Rose, at Davis hospital. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Lineberry and Mrs. Dewey Helton visited the former's parents, Mr.' and Mrs. T. L. Lineberry, of near Boonville, Sunday afternoon, i Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hampton and daughter, Sarah Frances, spent the week-end near Dobson with relatives. Miss Jean Lineberry was the Friday night guest of Miss Mag gie Bell Swaim, of Swan Creek community. Mr. Dewey Helton has been a convalescent at his home for the past few days. Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Mr. and Mrs. Verge Holcomb of First Class Br Fifth to attain the rank of First Class Scout in the Elkln Girl Scout troops, is Glen da Norman, above, who was awarded her badge during a program last Thursday even ing in which Elkin's Girl Scouts were tbe guests of the Elkln Kiwanis club. Methodist Church Presents Easter Play Several members of the Metho dist church presented the Easter Play, "Symbol of The Cross," Sun day evening at the church which was directed by Mrs. A. B. Scroggs. Misses Carol and Magdalene Martin rendered a duet, "Christ Arose," and were joined by the choir at various intervals. The choir rendered several selections at the beginning of the program. Mr. R. G. Boles was in charge of the scripture reading. The characters of the play were: Misses Jean Teal and Ca milla Minish, Rev. and Mrs. Dwight Mullis, Messrs. Th a d Martin, James Taylor and Eugene Martin. \ _______ Misses Holcomb and Price Entertain Misses Virginia Lee Holcomb and Magdalene Price entertained a number of friends at the form er's home Saturday night. During the evening many in teresting games and contests were enjoyed. At the end of the fUn period, refreshments were served to the following: Misses Dixie Chappell, Frances Pardue, Helen Bostic, Louise Felts, Lucile Vestal, Dor othy Woodruff, Rowena Parker, Cathryn Ingram and Magdalene Price; Messrs. Junior Anthony, Sam Price, Lester Holcomb, Rex Boyd, Jim Boyd, "Sleepy" Bailey, Walter Transou, Ernest Baker, Aubrey Church, Graham Shu mate, John Taylor, Junior Daph ne boil, and the hostesses. Misses Magdalene Price and Virginia Lee Holcomb. Miss Mable Hemric, of High Point, was an out-of town guest. Misses Simmons and Southern Entertain Misses Frauline Simmons and Linda Lou Southern entertained a number of friends on their 13th and 11th birthday anniversaries, respectively, Friday afternoon from 4:00 until 6:00 at the form er's home. During the afternoon outdoor games were enjoyed. The honorees were presented several attractive and useful gifts. Refreshments were served to the following: Misses Cornelia Lin berry, June Boles, Mildred Rose, Katie Lee Simmons, Vena Alexander, Vina Lee Davis, Co lombia Gilliam and Peggy South ard; Messrs. Fred Davis, Harold Simmons, Dexter Rose, James Rose, Ransom Kiger, and the hostesses, Misses Frauline Sim mons and Linda Lou Southern. Pleasant Ridge The Sunday school average is on top again, with 122 present last Sunday. Lois Carter, Geraldine Luff man and Jim Carter are on the sick list this week. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Carter, of State Road, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Carter and family Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Darnell, of Elkin, visited Mr. and Airs. L. C. Luffman Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Bessie Billings, of State Road, was a visitor at Sunday school Sunday. The small classes of Sunday school will enjoy an egg hunt Saturday afternoon at the church •at, 1:00 o'clock. All children are invited to come and bring three eggs each with them. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Mooney, of State Road, visited Mr. and Mrs. S. N. Couch Sunday. 1,600,000,000 hot dogs are eaten at public places by Americans every year. BENHAM Rev. Grant Cothren filled his regular appointment Saturday and Sunday. There will be prayer service at Benham Baptist church each Sunday night. Mr. Cletis Settle conducted the service last Sunday night. We had a good congrega tion, with several speakers. Much interest was shown in the ser vice. Rev. Carl Cockerham will conduct the service next Sunday I night. The public is cordially In- 1 vited to attend. We have on the sick list this week, Mr. Loyd West and the two small children of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Byrd. Rev. George Curry filled his appointment at Wilkesboro Sat urday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Luffman, of Charity, were the Sunday guests of Mrs. Luffman's sister, Mrs. Gssie Yarboro, and Mr. Yar boro. Also her mother, Mrs. Marcus' jolly. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gilliam and family were the Sunday guests of Mrs. Gilliam's aunt. Mis. Rory Brown, and Mr. Brown. Mr. and Mrs. David Cocker ham, of Little Mountain, were the Sunday guests of Mrs. Cocker ham's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roe Yarboro. Miss Irene Hayes was the week end guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Hayes, of the Knobs community. SINGING CONVENTION TO MEET AT COPELAND The Surry county Singing con vention will meet in the Cope land high school auditorium at 1:30 on the sth Sunday in March.
