Messrs. 1 Arthur Martin, Don Gilliam and Odell Harpe, and Mr. and Mrs. James Frye and Mr. and Mrs. George Sparks attended a singing at Hillsboro Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Mcßride and son, Billy, visited the form er's father, Mr. John Mcßride, at Bethel Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Shugart vis ited relatives in Mount Airy Sun day afternoon. Miss Carol Martin and Mr. Prank Tulbert visited in Winston- Salem Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Ed Scott and grandson, Mac, are spending this week at Bethel with the former's daugh ter, Mrs. Bess Pardue. Misses Joy and Jean Riden, who are students at Woman's College, spent the week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Riden. Miss Carmen Frye, public school music teacher in the Cher ryville school system, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Frye. James Shore and Miss Ruth son, Bobby Lee, and Mrs. Bob Rogers, of Winston-Salem. Mr. Jimmy Smith, of Winston- Salem, visited here Monday night. Miss Georgie Vestal spent Tues day in North Wilkesboro visiting her aunt, Mrs. Albert Brinegar. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Helton and Mrs. Dew ey Helton visited in the home of the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Lineberry, of near Boonville, Sunday afternoon. Misses Ann Newman and Lu cille Martin and Messrs. Miss Betty Jo Osborne is spending this week with Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Newman, of Ben ham. Mrs. Carl Jolly and children, Isaac, Sara and Gayle, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Wal ter Swaim, of Arlington. Messrs. Rufus Wilmoth and Sam Price spent the latter part of last week with Mr. Transou Boles, of Winston-Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Coy Williamson announce the birth of a daugh ter, Lorraine, on May 8. Mr. Max Anthony, of Winston- Salem, spent the latter part of last week with his family here. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Poindexter, of East Bend, spent Saturday here visiting friends. Mr. and Mrs. Foley Osborne and son, Tommy, spent Thursday in Winston-Salem. Miss Virginia Lineberry and Mr. Johnny sprinkle were the dinner guests of the latter's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Sprinkle, of Dobson, Sunday night. Miss Sue Martin is spending this week with her aunt in Hamptonville. Mr. Ernest Pruitt spent the week-end in Charlotte and Win ston-Salem. Mr. H. H. Boyles spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Boyles, of Dalton. Mr. Roby McCollum spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe McCollum, of Shoals. His sister, Carrie, re turned with him and was the Monday guest of Misses Virginia and Cornelia Lineberry. Mrs. Montgomery Casstevens spent last week at Pleasant Hill visiting Mrs. Lula Bryant and Mrs. Lottie Burch. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Casstev ens and Mrs. Montgomery Cas stevens spent Saturday in Win ston-Salem. Junior B.T.U. Class Enjoys Welner Roast The Junior department of the B. T. U. of the Baptist church met Tuesday evening at the school house, journeyed to the pasture of Mr. ,L. S. Weaver's home and enjoyed a weiner roast from 6:30 until 9:00. ' During the evening games were enjoyed. Those enjoying the roast were the following: Jean and Leonard Lineberry, Aleine Holcomb, Betty Jo Apperson, Daphne Harris, Dorothy, Mary, Marion and Nor ma Martin, Benny Martin, Elton Casstevens, James Lewis, Dor etha Chappell, Sara Lou Reece, Nancy Ann Mayberry, Jean Mad ison, Harly and Graydene Wag oner and the leader, Miss Bertha Adams. Shore, of Winston-Salem, were recent visitors in Boonville. Mrs. Leslie Hill, of Indianap olis, Ind., is spending several days here and in East Bend visiting her brothers and families, Avery Coram and Johnson Coram. Mrs. Hill hadn't been to North Caro lina in 23 years until her recent arrival. Miss Elizabeth Amburn and Mrs. Elizabeth Huskins, of Greensboro, were Sunday guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Amburn. Roy Jones, who has been con nected with Montgomery Ward and Company at Baltimore, Md., Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Jones, Jr., of Landis, Miss Pauline Jones, of Gibsonville, and Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Haney, of Belmont, were the week-end guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. Luther Jones and family. Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Cockerham, of Concord, were the week-end guests of Mr. Cockerham's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Stinson. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Woodruff, of Winston-Salem, and Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Angell were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Graham Reece and family Sunday. Miss Cleo Brendle, of Clem mons, spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Brendle. Bernard Mock, of State Col lege, spent a few days recently with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Mock. Mrs. Chester Badgett, of Mount Airy, is spending several days with Mr. and Mrs. Prank Hobson. Mr. and Mrs. Pressley Alexan der, of Charlotte, spent the past week-end with the mother of Mrs. Alexander, Mrs. A. B. Hob son. Mr. and Mrs. Chappell, of Boone, are visiting Mrs. Wilson's mother, Mrs. Henry Reece. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Fleming and family were the dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Comma, Sat urday. They attended the com mencement exercises here, also. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Patterson and son, of Winston-Salem, spent Sunday with Mrs. , Patterson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Fleming. Mrs. Lois Reinhardt, Miss Bet ty Lou Steelman, and her father, Houston steelman, all of Elkin, were the recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Steelman. A little Williams boy, son of Mrs. Frances Williams, of Boon vile, was knocked down and pain fully injured by a truck driver, James Dobbins, Saturday after noon. The Williams child, along with a number of other small children, was attending the birth day party of little Miss Janet Matthews, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Foster Matthews. It is un derstood that the accident was unavoidable. It is said that the Williams child, along with some of the other children, was play ing dose to the street, and that the child ran from behind a parked automobile directly into the side of the truck. The child received painful bruises and lac erations about the body, but the injuries aren't though to be of a serious nature. Mr. and Mrs. Sigmon Holcomb, of Elkin, visited Mrs. Leslie Hill at the home of her brother, J. J. Coram, Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Jones and Misses Irene and Frances Coram, also of Mount Airy, were Siihday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson J. Coram and family. Boonville Y. W. A. Convenes The Y. W. A. of Boonville Bap tist church met Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. Watt Deal. Misses Erma and Marie Hicks were associate hostesse to the gathering. Mrs. Elizabeth Reece was pro gram leader. An interesting pro gram on the general topic, "Mis sionary May Queens," was pre sented by various members of the organization. Miss Maiie Hicks gave the de votionals and Mrs. Allan' Jessup led in prayer. The program, centered around several outstanding missionary women and gtrls that overcame great pagan handicaps, poor health and various other defi ciencies to become Christian lead ers in various parts of the world, was very interesting. The following took part on the program: Mrs. Watt Deal, Mrs. Allan Jessup, Miss Ruby Hinshaw, Mrs. Arlie Steelman and Miss Dorothy Coram. A short business session was held immediately after the pro gram. It was decided to . send j $4.00 to Miss Bertha Hine of Jonesville, for associatiocal ex penses. The next meeting will be with Mrs. T. M. Reece. One new member, Miss Lorene Campbell, was welcomed into the society. Three visitors, Rosa Walker, Marie Perkins and Mrs. Raymond Connell, were present. Refreshments, consisting of cake, punch and candy were served.
