Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Chappell and Mr. and Mrs. Wilmoth Swaim attended the automobile races at Salisbury Sunday, May 19th. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Boles and daughter, June, visited relatives in Mt. Airy Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Boles and daughter, June, visited the form er's father, Mr. Ed Boles, who is a patient at Davis hospital, Statesville, Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hampton and daughter, Sarah Prances, and their week-end guest, Mr. Roger Sprinkle, of Galax, Va., visited relatives near Dobson Sunday afternoon. Mrs. J. P. Mrs. Parks Groce and Miss Reba Bauguess attended the memorial service a t Pleasant Ridge Sunday. Mrs. Parks Groce and Miss Reba Bauguess will leave Monday for Oklahoma City, where they will spend an indefinite time with Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Bauguess. Miss Hilda Gae Renegar, stu dent at W. C. U. N. C., spent the week-end here. Mr. and Mrs. Dee Holcomb vis ited Mrs. Lee Holcomb, of Cen ter, Sunday afternoon. The following college students have arrived home to spend the summer with their parents: Messrs. Kemp Reece, Mars Hill; Clyde Phillips, Wake Forest, and Herbert Mayberry, Mars Hill. Mrs. W. F. Reece spent a few days with her daughter, Mrs. Bill Hudspeth, of North Elkin, last week. Miss Bertha Adams and Mr. Leonard Lineberry attended the associational meeting held at Deep Creek Friday and both took part on the program. Mrs. D. G. Reece and children, Dothan and Sarah. Lou, visited the former's sister and niece, re spectively, Mrs. H. C. Wishon and Mrs. J. O. Gerry, of Winston-Sa lem, Sunday afternoon. Mrs. D. G. Reece has as her house guests this week, Mrs. Chappell Wilson and son, Wil liam, of Boone. Mr. and Mrs. Jake Brown spent Tuesday afternoon in Winston- Salem attending to business mat ters. Mr. W. A. Davis spent the week-end in Winston-Salem and High Point visiting relatives. Messrs. John Leipard and Clyde Dagenhart spent the week end in Statesville with relatives. Rev. D. G. Reece filled his reg ular appointment at Rockford Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Vanhoy and children, Sarah Charles and Ma bel, of Winston-Salem, visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Gilliam Sunday afternoon. Miss Dorethea Chappell spent last week in Boonville with Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Kimmer. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Chappell and daughter, Dorethea, visited the former's mother, Mrs. Frank Chappell, of Cycle, Sunday. Mrs. Denny Southard had as her house guest last week, her sister, Miss Mabel Hemric, of High Point. Mr. Joe Paris and daughter, Miss Mary Greenwood, and Miss Prances Pinnix, of Hamptonville, were visitors here Sunday. Miss Emma Gene Wilson re turned to her home in Boone Fri day after spending the week here the guest of Misses Jacqueline Brown and Sarah Lou Reece. Mrs. John Arnold spent the week-end in Yadkinville, the guest of her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hinshaw. ✓ Mr. G. S. Wagoner and sons, Leo and Allen, of Hamptonville, were visitors here Sunday. Mr. T. L. Lineberry, of near Boonville, was the dinner guest of his son, Mr. P. A. Lineberry, and family here Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Helton and Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Helton made a pleasure trip to the Scenic Highway and various other places Sunday. Messrs. John Lawson, Ernest Pruitt and James Branon spent the week-end to Winston-Salem visiting friends. Young People Enjoy Weekend at Shady Shack Several young people from this community and Boonville enjoy ed a pleasant week-end at Shady Shack, close to Mouth of Wilson, Va., having left Satin-day morn ing and returning Sunday night. Miss Claudia Austin, Mr. Red Eller and Mr. and Mrs. Boots Amburn served as chaperones. Those enjoying the trip were: Misses Erlene and Ruth Mayber ry, Opal Doss, Hilda Gae Rene gar, Kathryn Whitener, Ann Lineback, "Pete" Amburn, and Messrs. Bill and Earl Pardue, Hugh Salmons, Buster Derry, Russell Burcham, Russell John son, and the chaperones, Miss Claudia Austin, Mr. and Mrs. Boots Amburn and Mr. Red'Eller. Mrs. W. F. Reece and Mrs. Marvin Mayberry and daughter, Nancy Ann, were the dinner guests of Mrs. Clyde Shugart Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Roby Sprinkle and son, Michael, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Groce visited Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Doss, of High Point, Sunday. Mr. Frankie Groce, Miss Stella Groce and Mrs. Roby Reece at tended the funeral of Mr. Van ious Ashley at Longtown Satur day. Miss Elizabeth Underwood and Mr. Leon Martin visited friends and relatives in Galax, Va., Sun day afternoon. Mr. Dan Williams, of Atlanta, Ga., visited in the home of Mrs. P. H. Underwood here Monday. Mr. Robert Martin is spending this week in North Wilkesboro, the guest of his sister, Mrs. Otis Felts, who has just recently moved there from here. BETHEL The small daughter of Rev. and |Mrs. J. A. Gilley is very ill at the Baptist hospital in Winston-Sa lem, we regret to note. Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Triplett had as their guests last Sunday, her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Vannoy, Misses Sarah and Mabel and Charles, of Winston- Salem. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Stroud of Wilkesboro, visited her brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Gilliam, last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Morrison were the week-end guests of the latter's paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gray, of Clingman. Kenneth and Thomas Stroud visited their brother, Mr. Wayne Stroud, and Mrs. Stroud, of Ar lington, last Saturday night and Sunday. Percy Hemric, who has been confined to his home for several weeks with illness, is some better, we are glad to note. Mrs. C. W. Gilliam, Sr., spent a while Sunday afternoon .visiting Miss Mary Parks, at her"" home near Ronda. Mrs. G. P. Pardue, with her son, Ruel, and' daughter, Miss Blanche, had a visit for several days last week with her mother, Mrs. Hort Eller, of near West Jefferson. Messrs. D. S. Gilliam and Chas. Jones, with the Yadkin Valley Four quartet of Jonesville, attend ed a home-coming service at a churph near Traphill last Sunday aftecnoon, and also sang at Pleasant Hill church Sunday ev ening. They were accompanied by Mesdames Gilliam and Jones and Misses Norma and Kathlene Gilliam. Othell Osborn spent a few days last week at Jonesville, with his father and family. REMNANT STORE TO OPEN IN JONESVILLE A new remnant store will open in Jonesville Friday, May 31, carrying a full line of materials. The store will "be located just across the Yadkin river from Elk in, the first door to the right after crossing the old bridge. BURCH There will be a quartette sing ing at Union Cross Baptist church Sunday, June 2, at 1:30 o'clock. The public is invited to attend and all singqrs v are invited to have part on the program. Mr. and Mrs. Loyd Wilkins, of Hamptonville, spent the week end here the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Chappell. Mrs. Herman Paris, of Durham, is spending several days here the guest of her mother, Mrs. Mary Ashburn. Miss Thelma Dodson spent several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Felix Layne in Elkin. Those from here attending the quartette convention at Elkin Valley Sunday were: Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Sneed, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Plincham, Misses Lucille Marion, Florence Carter, Ruth Jenkins and Mrs. Marie Morri son. Mrs. Lucy Chappell and little daughter, Bonnie, are the guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. D. Shore, at Harmony. Mrs. Paul Marion, Jr., spent several days last week in Win ston-Salem, the guest of her mother, Mrs. E. R. Phillips. Rev. L. W. Burrus, of Rockford, will fill his regular appointment at Mt. Hermon church Saturday evening and Sunday morning. The public is invited to attend. Mrs. Emaline Cockerham, of Boonville, is spending several days here with friends and rela tives. J. A.
