Mrs. Bryan Is Hostess To Club At Luncheon Having as guests members of her bridge club and several visit ors, Mrs. A. O. Bryan entertained at a delightful bridge-luncheon Wednesday at Hotel Elkin. Luncheon was served at one o'clock and bridge was played during the afternoon. In the progressions scoring honors went . to Mrs. H. C. Graham. Spainhour, __ •f.* r Mrs. McNeely Is Hostess To Club Friday Evening Mrs. Fred McNeely entertained members of the Round Dozen Club at the regular fortnightly meeting Friday evening at her home on West Main street. Three "tables were placed for rook amid a pretty setting of colorful garden flowers. In the games scoring honors went to Mrs. W. C. Cox and Mrs. J. Coke Marion. Franklin and Fred McNeely entertained at a family dinner Sunday at their home on West Main street, honor ing Mrs. Numa Causey of Lin colnton, niece of Mrs. Franklin, and their week-end guest, on her birthday anniversary. A beautifully appointed dinner was served at one o'clock. Out-of-town guests were Mrs. F. H. Bobbitt, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Jones and Miss Betty Jones, all of Inverness, Florida, and Mrs. Causey, the honoree, and her hus band, of Lincolnton. Mr. and Mrs. Liliard Fete Bridal Couple Honoring Miss Caroline Liliard and Van W. Dillon, Jr., who were married Thursday evening in a beautiful ceremony at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mason Liliard, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Liliard entertained at din ner Wednesday evening at their home on Gwyn avenue. The home was decorated throughout with pink and white rosebuds and sweet peas. Covers were placed for twenty-six. The guest list in cluded members of the bridal party and out-of-town wedding guests. Carrie Woodruff Circle Meets Monday The Carrie Woodruff circle of the Y. W. A. of the Elkin Valley Baptist church met Monday ev ening at the home of Miss Bertice Bates, with Mrs. Jack Simmons associate hostess, with 10 mem bers and one visitor present. Miss Helen Hayes conducted the devotionals and presided over the business meeting. Miss Coleen White and Miss Ruth Martin were in charge of the program, assisted by Misses Mable Tulbert, Marguerite Cock erham, Frances and Jean Martin, Mae Cockerham, Bertice Bates and Mrs. Jack Simmons. Refreshments were served dur ing a pleasant social hour. Miss Mathis Is Hostess to Mission Circle The Woman's Society of Chris tian Service of the Jonesville Methodist church met Tuesday evening at the home of Miss Mary Mathis with nine members and two visitors present. Miss Catherine Boles presented the program, using as her sub ject, "Christian Brotherhood." The devotionals were in charge of Mrs. Wilmoth Swaim. Mrs. R. G. Boles made an interesting talk on the "The Spirit of Christ in Our Social Work." Mrs. L. S. Weaver, president of the society, presided over the business session, which featured routine business. Delicious refreshments were served during a pleasant social hour. Mesdames Chatham and Mot singer Entertain Thursday Honoring Miss Caroline Lillard and Van W. Dillon, Jr., of this city, who were married on Thurs day evening of last week, and Miss Emalene Neaves, of this city, and Hartley Lord, of Kenne bunk, Me., and Boston, who will be married Saturday at high noon, Mesdames Alex and Ray mond Chatham, of this city, and Mrs. M. E. Motsinger, of Win ston-Salem, entertained at a de lightful luncheon Thursday at one o'clock at Hotel Elkin. Shar ing honors with the bridal couples were Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Harris, Jr., of this city, who were mar ried in April. Guests for the luncheon included out-of-town guests for the Lillard-Dillon wed ding, and members of the fam ilies of the honor guests. Lovely corsages marked the places of the brides-elect and the bride, and summer flowers in pastel shades were used in the appointments of the luncheon table. Mission Circles Meet Monday Afternoon The circles of the Woman's So ciety of Christian Service of the Methodist church met Monday afternoon at 3:30 in the following homes: Circle number one -met with Mrs. H. P. Graham on Gwyn ave nue, with Mrs. Handy associate hostess, with 16 members present. Mrs. J. G. Abernethy, circle chairman, presided over the meeting and conducted the devo tionals. The Bible lesson was taught by Mrs. R. G. Smith. Circle number two met with! Mrs. R. C. Freeman on Church street, with Mrs. D. G. Smith as sociate hostess, with 20 members present. Mrs. R. C. Freeman, circle chairman, presided over the meeting and Mrs. Herman F. Duncan conducted the devotion als. The Bible lesson was taught by Mrs. J. L. Hall, assisted by Mesdames R. C. Miss Liliard Is Bride of Mr. Dillon In Home Ceremony Of widespread interest is the marriage of Miss Caroline Worth Liliard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mason Liliard, and Van W. Dil lon, Jr., both of this city, which was solemnized on Thursday ev ening at eight o'clock at the home of the bride's parents, on Gwyn avenue. Dr. R. C. Ander son of Montreat, and Rev. Her man F. Duncan, pastor of the bride, officiated. Mrs. Franklin Folger, pianist, and Miss Josephine Paul, soprano soloist, gave a program of nuptial music prior to the ceremony. Mrs. Folger played "Llebestraum," Liszt; Miss Paul sang "I Love Thee," Grieg, and "All For Thee," Bertrand-Braun. The Bridal Chorus from Lohengrin was used as a processional. During the ceremony Mrs. Folger played "O Perfect Love," Barnby. The mantel of the living room, banked with southern smilax, was centered with a bowl of mixed white flowers. White tapers burned on each end. Other bowls of white flowers were used throughout the room. The bride was given in mar riage by her father. Henry Dil lon served as his brother's best man. Mrs. John Vernon Sagar, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. White velveray starched chiffon fashioned the bride's gown, which was made with a fitted bodice and full skirt ending in a train. Long sleeves were fitted to points over her hands. Her finger-tip length veil of illusion was made with a coronet of lace held in place with a band of orange blos soms. She carried a small colon ial bouquet of white roses and lilies-of-the-valley. Her only or nament was a pendant of topaz and seed pearls made from her maternal great-grandmother's wedding earring. The matron of honor wore a gown of pale yellow velveray starched chiffon, fashioned on lines similar to that of the bride. Mrs. Mason Lillard, mother of the bride, wore old rose lace and her flowers were roses and lilies of-the-valley. The bride graduated from Queens College in Charlotte. She is a member of the Chi Omega Sorority, and Alpha Kappa Gam ma and Alpha Lambda Mu, hon orary fraternities. Since the an nouncement of the engagement she has been widely feted. Mr. Dillon is the son of Van W. Dillon, Sr., and the late Mrs. Dillon, of Elkin. He was educated at Davidson College. At present he holds a position with Chat ham Manufacturing company. Immediately after the cere many Mr. and Mrs. Dillon left for a short wedding trip. For travel the bride wore a suit of navy blue and white with white accessories, and a shoulder bou quet of lilies-of-the-valley. After June sth Mr. and Mrs. Dillon will be at home in Elkin. TAP DANCING FEATURE OF KIWANIS MEETING A tap dance by Miss Constance Greenwood, accompanied at the piano by Miss Dorothy Colhard, was a feature of the entertain ment at the meeting of the Elkin Kiwanis club at Hotel Elkin last Thursday evening. The program was in charge of Kiwanian D. G. Smith, program chairman of the club. Next Tuesday the local club will meet with the Yadkinville Civitan club at Yadkinville.
