NBWS FROM THE Mrs. R. R. Smithwick and daughter, Mary Martin, joined a Statesville party, and are pend ing this week at Myrtle Beach, S. C. Miss Emma Comer was hostess to her bridge club Saturday ev ening. Mrs. Elizabeth Bolick was winner of both the grand slam and high score prizes. Mrs. Louise McNeil and Mrs. Herman Coe were given visitor's prizes. At the conclusion of the progres sions Miss Comer served a course of refreshments. Miss Eva Hancock spent Mon day morning in Mt. Airy. Miss Katherine Irwin, of Har riman. Tenn., was the guest of Miss Edythe Reece Friday. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. White and Mrs. Sallye Folger spent a few days in Raleigh the past week, re turning Friday. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. McNeil, of Carthage, are spending some time with Mrs. Brady Norman. C., Greensboro, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Grady Cooper. Little Linda Hancock has re turned from Winston-Salem where she spent some time, with her aunt, Mrs. Bennett Cornelius. Miss Emma Comer is spending her vacation in Bluefield, W. Va., visiting her sister, Mrs. Ernest Keesee. Mrs. W. L. Reece spent the week with her daughter, Mrs. A. D. Folger, in Mt. Airy. Mr. and Mrs. Ivey Rogers, Ivey Gray and Mrs. Mary Folger spent the week-end in Semora with Mr. Rogers' parents. PARDUE FAMILY HOLDS REUNION Members of the family of C. A. Pardue met in reunion at his home at Cycle Sunday in honor of Mrs. Jackie Golden, of Long Beach, Calif., daughter of Mr. Pardue, who is visiting here, and her husband and son. Those at tending were Mr. and Mrs. Miles Weatherman, of Elkin; Mr. and Mrs. Hine, of Winston-Salem; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson and family, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hall and family, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Riley and family, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Pardue and family, Mr. and Mrs. David Par due and family, Mr. and Mrs. Buster Pardue and family. Miss Vick Pardue and Dwight Pardue, all of Cycle. LOCAL SCOUTS BADGE WINNERS Attend Camp Lasater, Which Closed Successful Season July 17th HONORS ARE AWARDED Camp Lasater, Winston-Salem Council Boy Scout Camp, closed a successful season Wednesday, July 17. A new record was made in the number of scout tests and merit badges passed by the camp ers, there being 523 tests passed during the four weeks period by the 189 different campers attend ing camp. Among the local boys attend ing camp were: Mark Reece from Troop 25, of Jonesville, for a four weeks pe riod passing the following merit badges: first aid to animals, pio neering, safety, public health, life saving and farm home and its planning. Attending for two weeks from Troop 46 were Billy Myers, pass ing second class knife and axe, fire building, compass, and com pleting second class require ments; Jim Hanks, passing first class service, thrift, signaling, 14-mile hike, first aid, cooking, handicraft, nature, completing first class requirements, and merit badges in basketry, first aid and metal craft; Bob McNeill at tending for one week, passing second class first aid, first class 14-mile hike, and first aid. In attendance from Troop 4R for a two-weeks period were Errol Hayes, Jr., passing second class tracking, first aid, fire building, signaling, knife and axe, com pass, completing second class re quirements, and passing first class swimming; Graham John son, passing second class signal ing, compass, completing second class and first class swimming, hike and nature; Gayle Graham, passing first class signaling, hike, first aid, handicraft, completing first class requirements, and merit badges in first aid, bas ketry, metal work, athletics, first aid to animals, and leather craft; Joe Harris, passing first class thrift, signaling, 14-mile hike, first aid, handicraft, nature, completing first class require ments and merit badges in first aid, basketry, athletics, first aid to animals, and metal work; Bob Harris, passing first class signal ing, hike, first aid, handicraft, judging, completing first class re quirements with merit badges in athletics, first aid, leathercraft, first aid to animals, metal work and basketry; Charles Colhard, passing merit badges in swim ming, athletics, lifesaving, schol arship, basketry, and leather craft. Gayle Graham, Bob Harris, and Joe Harris were selected for membership in the Order of the Arrow, which is a national fra ternity of honor campers, Camp Lasater having one of the few lodges in North Carolina. Bob Harris was selected for the third week period for the Caro lina award as best camper for the week receiving fourth place. Billy Myers was selected for the fourth week receiving fourth place. The Carolina award is made by the Carolina theater of Winston-Sa lem and presented by Mr. Rice, manager. Local scouters serving on the camp staff were J. Mark Mc- Adams, camp director; Fred Nor man and Eugene Aldridge, Junior counselors. MOUNTAIN VIEW A large number of relatives and friends met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Julian Collins Sunday and spread a fine dinner on the lawn. String music and singing furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Ball and the York Sisters was enjoy ed .in the afternoon. The many friends of Mrs. Nancy Shore will be glad to learn of her continued improvement. Mr. and Mrs. Will Hall, of West Virginia, visited the form er's brother, Mr.' Richard Hall, and Mrs. Hall, Saturday. We regret to note that Mrs. J. A. Pardue is confined to her bed with a severe cold. Miss Vernon Van Hoy, of Win ston-Salem, spent the week-end with her uncle, Mr. Tom Van Hoy, and Mrs. Van Hoy. Mr. Click Stokes, also of Winston-Salem, was their Sunday dinner guest. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Swaim, of Winston-Salem, were the week end guests of Mrs. Swaim's par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Tucker. Mrs. Joe Cheek and children, of Arlington, spent Monday* with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Stokes. Miss Lucille Van Hoy is spend ing a week in Winston-Salem, the guest of relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Snow, of Yadkinville, visited the former's brother, Mr. Willie Snow, and Mrs. Snow, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. C. B.
