Young People's Class Meets
Tuesday Evening
The Young Women's Adult
class of the Baptist church met
Tuesday night for their monthly
class meeting at the home of
Mrs. Sam Martin on Cherry
street, with seven members pres
ent.
Mrs. Tat Davis, leader, was in
charge. Mrs. Tommy Hendren
was in charge of the devotionals.
During the business period,
which was presided over by the
vice-president, Mrs. Sam Martin,
routine business was transacted.
During the social hour, a spe
cial array of refreshments was
served.
Officers and Teachers Meet
Friday Night
The officers and teachers of
the Baptist church met Friday
evening at the church for their
monthly business meeting.
Mr. Roby Casstevens, superin
tendent. was in charge of the
program. Rev. Raymond Cor
nell, pastor, addressed the group
with a very interesting talk and
plans were made for visitation
day to be held on Sunday, July
21st.
During the business period rou
tine business was transacted.
Approximately twelve officers
and teachers were present.
Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Helton
announce the birth of a daugh
ter, Anita Louise, at Hugh Chat
ham Memorial hospital, July 24.
Mrs. Howard Casstevens spent
a few days last week with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roger
Shumate, at Crumpler.
Allen and Leo Wagoner, of
Hamptonville, were the dinner
guests of Elton and Kenneth
Casstevens Thursday."

closed at the Baptist church here

Pleasant Hill, in charge of the

after spending a week here with
friends and relatives.

week with friends and relatives.

mond Baptist church Sunday.

during the meeting. Visiting

Arlington, and Rev. Lester John
son, of Hays. Miss Annie Chis
holm, of Thomasvllle, well known
soloist of this section, assisted by
Mrs. Gabbard as pianist, render
ed special'music during the meet
ing.
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Ring left
Wednesday morning for New
York where they will attend the
World's Pair and visit in Canada.
They expect to be gone 10 days
or two weeks.
Mrs. Claude Edwards and
daughter, Carmen, spent several
days at the beginning of the week
at Roaring Gap visiting friends
and relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Chappell
had as their guests last week Mrs.
Rural Sneed and sons, David and
Allen, of Winston-Salem.
Mr. and Mrs. J. c. Carter, of
Winston-Salem, spent the week
end here the guests of Mr. Car

During an electrical storm here
Sunday evening lightning struck
the home of Mr. John Whitaker
and did some damage. Mrs. Lela
Bray was shocked but she is re
covering.
During an electrical storm
Monday a lot of damage was done
to corn and tobacco in this sec
tion.
Mr. and Mrs. A W. Flincham
spent Sunday visiting friends
and relatives in Pilot Mountain.

were the regular preaching pe
riods, with Rev. Clete Simmons
preaching Saturday night and
Rev. D. H. Day, Sunday.
Rev. Carl Cockerham, of Ben
ham, preached at our church
Sunday night.
The P. H. C. class will mefet at
the home of Miss Lillian Mickel
Friday night. Guest speaker will
be Miss Prances King Turner, a
missionary worker.
Mr. Melvin Baugess, of Okla
homa City, Okla., was the guest
last week of Mrs. Zora Couch.
Luther Day has returned to his
home from the Hugh Chatham
Memorial hospital. His condition
is much improved, we are glad to
report.
Rev. David Day is holding a
revival meeting at New Hope
church at Dobson, where he is
pastor.
Roby Cockerham, the small
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wel
born Settle, and Raymond Dowell
are on the sick list this week.
"Aunt Susan" Shuman and
daughter, Mrs. Jennie Keys, of
St. Louis, Mo., are spending the
summer here with relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Gilliam
motored to Wilkesboro Monday
on business.
Mr. and Mrs. Odell Couch made
a business trip to Statesville Sat
urday.
