Mission Circle to Meet This Evening Circle number four of the Wo man's Society of Christian Ser vice of the Methodist church will meet this evening (Thursday) at 7:45 with Mrs. Alden Hunt and Mrs. Ralph Reich, on Vine street. All members are cordially in vited to attend. Mm. Lankford Is Hostess At Bridge-Luncheon Mrs. W. B. Lankford was host ess at a lovely bridge-luncheon Friday at her home on Hospital Road. Garden flowers were used in an attractive arrangement throughout the home and as cen terpieces for the four small tables where covers were placed for six teen. Bridge was enjoyed during the afternoon, with the high score award going to Mrs. Errol Hayes at the close of a series of interest ing progressions. Circles To Meet In Group At Methodist Church The day circles of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist church will meet in group session at the church Monday afternoon at 3:30 for the August meeting. The Bible les son will be taught by Mrs. H. C. Salmons. At the close of the program a social hour will be en joyed. Hostesses will be Mes dames P. W. Graham, W. A. Fin ney, R. L. C. Round Doten Club Meets With Mrs. J. Walter Darnell Mrs. J. Walter Darnell was hostess to members of the Round Dozen Book Club at the fort nightly meeting Friday evening at her home on Gwyn Avenue, with a full membership attendance. A dessert course was served upon the arrival of the guests and during the evening rummy was enjoyed with the high score award going to Mrs. Fred Mc- Neely and the runner-up prize to Mrs. H. F. Laffoon. Club books were, exchanged and discussed at the conclusion of the play. Shirley Ann Lawrence Is Feted on Birthday Anniversary Honoring her little daughter, Shirley Ann, on her sixth birth day anniversary, Mrs. Beulah Lawrence entertained at a birth day party Friday afternoon at her home in North Elkin. Fifteen children of a similar age were invited and outdoor games were enjoyed, with prizes going to John McPhail, Tommy Sprinkle, Sarah Martin and Betty Law rence. A color scheme of yellow and white was carried out in detail on the party appointments. Cake, ices, mints and lemonade were served. The honoree received many lovely gifts. Miss Hayes Is Hostess at Dance To Honor Visitors Miss Eleanor Hayes was hostess at a delightful dance at her home on Church street Friday evening to honor a number of out-of town visitors, including Miss Nell Rousseau and Lula Hester Brame of North Wilkesboro, Miss Irma Shore Siceloff of High Point, Miss Elizabeth Lindsay, Miss Phyllis Gordon and Henry Whit aker of Winston-Salem, Miss Alice Ross and Jack and Bob Ross of Charlotte, and Miss Bet ty Messenger and Dick Messen ger of Hartford, Conn. The guest list included about fifty friends. Punch was served on the lawn during the evening, from an at tractively arranged 'table. G. A. Meets Thursday The Intermediate Girls' Aux iliary of the Elkin Valley Baptist THE ELKIN TRIBUNE, ELKIN, NORTH CAROLINA church met at the home of Miss Mary Lee Couch Thursday after noon at four o'clock. The meet ing opened with the scripture reading, followed by prayer by Mrs. Virginia Couch. Miss Ruby Johnson presided over the meeting. An interesting program was presented. During a pleasant social hour the hostess served iced melon to the following members present: Mrs. Virginia Couch, Misses Lu- cile Collins, Betty Hayes, Ruby Johnson, Louvene Jordan, Emma Lou Lyon, Jean Shores, Elizabeth Cooper, Mary Lee Couch and Ha zel Tulbert. Miss Myers, Bride-Elect of Month, Is Honored Friday Honoring Miss Amy Kathryn Myers, of this city, bride-elect of the month, Mrs. Harvey Church entertained at a delightful din ner party Friday evening at her country home near Ronda. The guest list included Miss Myers, honoree, her parents, Mr, and Mrs. C. N. Myers, Mrs. Beatrice Myers Phillips and Thomas Phil lips, of this city, Miss Ciena Church, of Charlotte, and Ernest Edwards. The dining room table was centered with a graceful bouquet of yellow calendulas and candles in the same shade were used on either end of the table. A four course dinner was served. Miss Myers was presented a lovely gift. Baptist Circles to Meet The circles of the W. M. U. of the First Baptist church will meet Monday and Tuesday. Circles meeting Monday after noon at 3:30 will be the Neal Young circle with Mrs. Gurney Hampton; the Naomi Shell circle with Mrs. H. G. York, and the Emma Leechman circle with Mrs. E. T. Reece. The Rosalee Appleby circle will meet Monday evening at 8:00 o'clock in the church parlor and the Pearl Johnson circle will meet at the same time with Mrs. J. D. Jones. The Edith Adair circie will meet Tuesday evening at 8:00 o'clock with Mrs. Thomas Hen dren. All members are cordially in vited to attend. Mrs. Atkinson Is Hostess To Garden Club Mrs. J. s. Atkinson delightfully entertained members of the Yad kin Valley Garden club at the monthly meeting at her home on West Main street Thursday af ternoon. Summer flowers were used throughout the home in an attractive arrangement. Eleven members of the club were present for the meeting. The program was in charge of Mrs. W. W. Whitaker and featur ed a competitive arrangement of miniature garden flowers by the members, each member bringing a vase of small flowers from her own garden. Mrs. E. C. James and Mrs. E. G. Click tied for the prize and each of them was pre sented a vase. A round table dis cussion of small garden flowers followed the program. A beautifully appointed colla tion was served during the after noon. Miss Royall Is Luncheon Hostess Thursday Miss Peggy Royall was hostess at a delightful luncheon Thurs day at her home on Church street, to honor her guest, Miss Nell Rousseau, of North Wilkes boro. and Miss Lula Hester Brame of North Wilkesboro, and Miss Irma Shore Siceloff of High Point, guests of Miss Mary Eliz abeth Allen. Summer flowers were attractively arranged thru out the home. Covers were placed for sixteen at small ta bles, which were centered with bouquets of small flowers, in pas tel shades. The guest list included, in ad dition to the honorees, Misses Clyde and Madeline Myers and their guest, Miss Mable Dare Til ley, of Chapel Hill; Miss Eileen Shamel and her guest, Miss Phyl lis Gordon, of Winston-Salem; Miss Betty Messenger of Hart ford, Conn., Misses Eleanor Hayes, Mary Elizabeth Allen, Mary Crater, Faye Hiatt, Nan Johnson, Louise Laffoon and Dor othy Harrell. Each out-of-town guest was given an attractive gift. Mrs. Van W. Dillon, Sr., Is Feted at Afternoon Tea Mrs. Van W. Dillon, Jr., Mrs. Fred Colhard, Miss Alice Dixon and Miss Blanche Dixon were among those from here who at tended the tea given by Mrs. Mil as w. Mackie, Mrs. Kate' Mackie Waynick, and Miss Blanche Mackie at their home in Yadkinville last Thursday after noon. The tea honored Mrs. Van W. Dillon, Sr., of this city, Mrs. Frank Siefer, of Oakland, Calif., and Miss Margaret Eaton, of Yadkinville, whose marriage to Lieutenant Alfred Jennings Floyd, of Lumberton, was solemnized Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Joe Williams greeted the guests at the door. Receiving in the living room were Mrs. Milas Wilson Mackie, Mrs. Frank Sief er, Mrs. Kate Mackie Waynick, Mrs. Van W. Dillon, Sr., Miss Blanche Mackie and Miss Mar garet Eaton. Mrs. Paul Price Davis directed the guests to the dining room where Mrs. John Myers, of Winston-Salem, pre sided. Dobbins received in the hall and directed the guests to the sun room where Miss Mary Harding presided. An Ice course was serve by Bliss Ann Hall, Miss Mildred Logan, and Miss Edith Jessup. Goodbyes were said to Mrs. Rossle 8. Shore. Miss Billie Williams played sev eral piano selections during the afternoon. More than 175 guests called between the hours of four and five-thirty.
