Everything for the Home Dobson W Club Erects New Building, A new club building, started by the Dobson Woman's club about three months ago, is now receiv ing the finishing touches and was used as an assembly place for the club the first time on Thursday of last week. The new building, which is very attractively ar ranged, was built at a cost of ap proximately $3,000. The floor plans include an assembly room, large enough to accommodate a large crowd, a library room, which will be stocked with books by the club members, and a club kitchen. The Dobson Woman's club, which is one of the most active civic organizations in the coun ty, has a membership of 60, with the present officers including Mrs. John W. Comer, president; Mrs. J. W. Crawford, vice-presi dent, and Mrs. Thedford Sprinkle, secretary. Officers-elect, which will be installed at the beginning of the club year, are: president, Mrs. Carl Folger; vice-president, Mrs. Clyde Forrest, and secretary, Mrs. John W. Comer. ROCKFORD Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Burrus had as their guests last Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Butner, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hauser and son, Rich ard, of Winston-Salem, and Mrs. H. E. Davis of East Bend. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Harring ton and family of Taylorsville, spent the week-end with their parents, Rev. and Mrs. George E. Burrus. Miss Mary Margaret Holyfield of Winston-Salem, spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Holyfield. Mr. Robert Clark and daughter, Louise, are spending a week with relatives in Greensboro. The Adult School in our com munity is being well attended. Classes meet in the Sunday school room of the Methodist church four afternoons each week. Classes in home making and leisure time ac tivity meet, and the material used in these classes for piecing quilts, making aprons, etc., is free. There are twenty women enrolled in these classes. On Wednesday afternoon liter acy is taught in the homes, also new illiterates enrolled. On Mon day, Wednesday and Friday nights of each week first aid is taught at the class room. Mrs. Alma B. Holyfield, who is teacher of the adult classes, has recently com pleted a course in first aid at W. C. U. N. C., Greensboro, getting her instructor's certificate. She now has twelve pupils enrolled in her class, which will finish the course about August 16. An examination will be given at the end of the course and those passing with a grade of not less than 75 per cent will receive stand ard certificates from the Ameri can Red Cross. The course cov ers ten lessons each of two hours. A new class will be organized about the 19th of August, and anyone wishing to enroll in this class will please see Mrs. Holy field within the next two weeks. In order to be eligible for ex amination the student is expected to attend all lessons or make up lost time. Pay, and Rev. Arvil Alexander delivered the Sunday evening message. ' Rev. Arvil Alexander will be ordained as minister at Pleasant Hill Baptist church Sunday af ternoon at' 3:00 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. David Darnell announce the birth of a son, Leonard Dale, August 2. Rev. Brakins of Davie county, was the Sunday dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Yarboro. Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Creed were visitors in our Sunday school and community Sunday. Mrs. Bertha Ray is on the sick list this week. The W. M. U. of Pleaasnt Hill Baptist church met Monday ev ening at 7 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Jack Smoot, with nine members present. Mrs. A. W. Wood was in charge of the pro gram, with Mrs. Robert Wilmoth, Mrs. Grace Eads, Mrs. Ed Couch, Mrs. Jack Smoot and Mrs. C. R. Darnell assisting. The interesting program was taken from Royal Service. Mrs. C. R. Darnell closed the meeting* with prayer. During the business period sev eral new items of business were discussed. The meeting time has been moved up from 7:00 o'clock to 8:00 o'clock p.m. during the summer months. ELKIN BAPTIST S. S. CONVENTION TO MEET The Elkin Baptist Sunday school association will convene for the monthly session Sunday afternoon, August 11, at 2 o'clock with White Plains Baptist church. The storm here last Monday did considerable damage to corn and tobacco. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Oilley and children, James and Geneva, of Dobson, recently spent a few days here with his parents, Rev. and Mrs. J. A. Gilley. Miss Viola Pinnix, of Cycle, spent week before last here visit ing her brother and family.
