NEWS OF RONDA Rev. Dwight B. Mullis, of Jonesville, preached an interest ing sermon at Ronda Methodist church Sunday at 10 a.m. The scripture lesson which he read was 2 Cor. 12:1-12, and his sub ject for his sermon was "Thorns in the Flesh." Rev. and Mrs. Mullis left for High Point Mon day to attend the Western North Carolina Conference of the Meth odist church. Our Sunday school, as usual on first and third Sun days, was held immediately after preaching service. On other Sun days our Sunday school begins at 10:15 ajn. Come and be with us some Sunday. Rev. R. R. Crater filled his reg ular appointment at Pleasant Grove Baptist church Sunday at 11 a.m. Mrs. Crater and their son, Jimmy, accompanied him and they were the dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Granville Green at Clingman. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Adams, of State Road, visited Mrs. Adams' niece, Mrs. R. E. Martin, and her family here Sunday. Mr. E. S. Edwards made a trip to Raleigh Tuesday. There was an interesting State Mission Day program given at Ronda Baptist church Sunday morning immediately after Sun day school by some of the ladies and girls. Immediately after this program Rev. J. M. Wright preached an interesting sermon. His text was "I Am Debtor Both to the Greeks and to the Bar barians; Both to the Wise and to the Unwise." Romans 1:14. Rev. Wright also filled his appoint ment here Sunday evening at 7 o'clock. Mr. J. B. Bell attended the funeral and burial services of Mr. H. H. Koonts at the First Reform church of Lexington last Friday at 3 pjn. Mr. Koonts was a past national president of the P. O. S. of A. Mrs. Harvey Church and brother, Mr. Ernest F. Edwards, visited their brothers, Messrs. T. M. and D. N. Edwards, in Win ston-Salem recently. Miss Annie Sue Holland and Mr. Edwards Holland, of Win ston-Salem, were week-end guests of Mr. Ernest F. Edwards and his sister, Mrs. Harvey Church. Miss Louise Eury, third grade teacher here, spent the week-end at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Eury, in Bessemer City. She went down to attend a family reunion on Sunday, and was accompanied by Mr. William Norris, who is a member of the high school faculty at Mount Ulla. Miss Mary Louise Barrier, a teacher here, spent the week-end in Concord with her parents. Mrs. William Booth, one of the high school teachers, spent the week-end in China Grove with her husband. They had as their guests Misses Mamie Miller, of Galax, Va., and Margaret Phil lips, of West Jefferson. Mrs. John Harris, who is a teacher here, had as her guests her little son, Johnnie, and Mr. and Mrs. Dever Lawrence on Sunday, October 13. Mr. Bill Carrigan, of Greens boro, visited his sister, Mrs. E. R. Spruill, and Prof. Spruill, at the Ronda teacherage Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Gorman Johnson, a teach er here, spent the week-end in North Wilkesboro with his wife. Misses June Crouse and Edna Bray and Messrs. Kenneth Green and Irvin Key enjoyed a picnic on the scenic highway Sunday. Miss Ruby Dockery spent the week-end in Winston-Salem vis iting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Binkley and children, Joyce Lee, David and Martin, of Lewisville, visited Mrs. Binkley's mother, Mrs. J. T. Martin, and other relatives here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. They attended a family reunion at Clemmons and visited Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Barber in Winston- Salem on Sunday. Rev. and Mrs. J. M. Wright, of Union Grove, were the dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Byrd. The W. M. S. 6f Ronda Baptist church held its October meeting at the home of Mrs. R. C. Martin last Thursday at 2 p.m. Mrs. H. A. Hanks conducted thedevotion als. Others taking part on the program were: Mesdames Everet Dobbins, E. T. Edwards, R. C. Martin and Hobson Blackburn. Mrs. R. C. Martin, president of the society, was in charge of the business part of the meeting. At the close of the meeting delicious refreshments were served by the hostess> Miss Lettie Crouse, of Mayo dan, is spending several days here visiting relatives and friends. Hanks and Glenn Poplin attended the auto races at High Point Sunday. Mr. J. T. Martin left for Fort Bragg last Thursday. He is work ing down there. His son, Mr. James Martin, left Sunday night to join him. PLEASANT HILL Services in the new church were held for the first time Sun day morning. A total of 276 was present for Sunday school. The Adults Men Bible Class was taught by Mr. W. S. Reich, who was one among the many visitors present. Several of the neighboring churches were represented by a number of their members. At the close of Sunday school, the classes assembled into the auditorum for the 11 o'clock service. The pas tor, Rev. D. W. Day, delivered an inspiring message, his subject be ing, "The House of the Lord." He also gave a brief out-line of the history of the church and recogin nized the charter members which only three are living", they being, Mrs. Betty Couch, Mrs. Julia Darnell, and Mrs. Cinda Shore. The choir, and the "Singers of Yesterday," quartet (which con sists of old people) furnished special music at both services. The annual fall revival is now in progress. Rev. G. W. Swinney, of Burlington, who is assisting in the meeting, is bringing wonder ful messages. Singers from his church are expected to render special music from.time to time. Large crowds are attending each service. Everyone has a cordial invitation to attend. Miss Mae Couch, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milas Couch, of this community, was struck by a pass ing motorist, Saturday night at the cross roads in West Elkln. She was rushed to the local hos pital where she received prompt attention. An arm, a leg and her head were severely bruised. It is hoped IJiat her condition is not serious. Mrs. Raymond Ray has returned to her home after spending some time in the Baptist hospital in Winston-Salem. She underwent a major operation, but her condi tion, now, is much improved, we are glad to report. Mrs. Ray was accompanied home by Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Couch and Mr. Ray. Messrs Charlie Collins and Les ter Wilkins are on the sick list this week. Mrs. Curtis Couch spent Sat urday afternoon in Winston-Sa lem on business. Mrs. Cora Day, accompanied by her sister, Mrs. E. B. Lawrence and Mary Frances Tower motored to Winston-Salem Sunday after noon where thew' visited their mother, Mrs. Ida Howell. Mrs. Robert Wilmouth and Mrs. Jack Smoot motored to North Wilkesboro, Friday, on business. Misses Beulah Couch and Anna Laura Ray, students of the Hin shaw Beauty school in North Wilkesboro spent the week-end with their parents. Mrs. Nancy Collins, of the North Elkin community, spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Collins.
