NEWS OF RONDA Well, conference Is over and we're glad to welcome Rev. and Mrs. Dwight B. Mullis back on the Jonesville charge for another year. We also welcome Rev. A. C. Gibbs as our district superin tendent. Rev. and Mrs. R. R. Crater and son, Jimmy, were visitors in the home of Rev. Crater's sister, Mrs. A. D. Stout, near Zion church, Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Graham Myers and son, David, also Mrs. Seaman Dobbins, of Elkin, visited Mrs. G. H. Sale Thursday afternoon of last week. Misses Carol McNeil and Betty Jo Miner, of Roaring River, spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. and Mrs. Sidney Carter, also Mrs. R. M. Carter recently. Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Moore, of Mount Ulla, were the dinner guests Sunday of. Mr. Moore's brother, Mr. P. T. Moore, and Mrs. Moore. Miss Zelma Key, of Little Elk in community, spent a few days last week with her sister, Mrs. G. H. Sale, and family. Miss Edith Crater, of North Wilkesboro, was the week-end guest of her parents, Rev. and Mrs. R. R. Crater. Messrs. W. E. Sale and J. B. Bell attended the Western North Carolina Conference of the Meth odist church at High Point on Wednesday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Martin and family were visitors in Galax, Va., Sunday afternoon. On Monday of last week Mrs. J. T. McNeil and daughter, Miss Inez, of Roaring River, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sears and Miss Ha zel McNeil, of Greensboro, were the dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Carter and Mr. Carter's mother, Mrs. R. M. Carter. Mr. and Mrs. Carson York and family, of Alspaugh, visited in the home of Mrs. York's mother, Mrs. R. L. Church, Sunday. Messrs. R. C. Crumpler, George Poplin and Ben Martin attended the auto races in Greensboro re cently. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Bell and Miss Patsy Ruth Myers attended the flag and Bible presentation program at North Elkin school Sunday afternoon. Mr. G. W. Miss Edna Hanks, of Elkin, spent the week-end with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Hanks. Miss Sallie Blackwood, of Win ston-Salem, visited her mother, Mrs. N. J. Blackwood, Sr.,i Sun day. Mrs. W. S. Edwards spent a week recently in Davie county visiting relatives. Mrs. C. C. Anderson and daughters, Thelma and Prances, and son, Clyde, of Cycle, were the guests of Mrs. Anderson's par ents, Mi., and Mrs. M. C. Jones, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reaves, Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Byrd and son, David, attended the funeral of Mr. J. E. Byrd Saturday after noon at Roaring River Baptist church. Mr. Byrd died in a hos pital in Greensboro earlier in the week. He was a brother of Mr. E. D. Byrd here and Mr. E. L. Byrd, of Elkin. Mrs. T. W. Hanks entertained at a delightful surprise birthday supper Saturday evening in hon or of her husband. The beauti ful birthday cake had 29 candles on it. Those present to enjoy this supper with Mr. and Mrs. Hanks were his grandmother, Mrs. Mary Byrd, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Hanks, his sister, Miss Edna Hanks, some friends, Mr. and Mrs. P. T. Moore and Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Sale. Mr. C. B. Butner, Mr. and Mrs. Anderson and daughters, of Rural Hall, were visitors in Ron da Sunday. Come on, everyone who possi bly can and let's be at Ronda Methodist church Sunday at 10 ajn. to welcome Rev. and Mrs. Mullis back for another year. Then let's everyone who can go to Ronda Baptist church at 11 a.m. to hear Rev. J. M. Wright. Let's try to attend church as often as we can and encourage others to do the same. V ELKIN LOSES TO WYTHEVILLE 6-7 Elkin high school Friday suf fered their first loss of the sea son when they were defeated 7-6 by Wytheville high school in a night game there. Wytheville scored in the second period and converted for the ex tra point. However, Elkin came back in the second half to put over a touchdown when Shugart carried the ball over. REVIVAL STARTS AT SHADY GROVE NOV. 3 A revival meeting will begin at Shady Grove Baptist church on Sunday, November 3, and will continue for a week. Dr. Charles H. Stevens, pastor of the Salem Baptist church at Winston-Sa lem, will assist the pastor, Rev. Dewey Armstrong, in the services. Two meetings will be held daily, at 11 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. More pies are eaten by the peo ple of Connecticut every year than in any other state. PARK An annual Hallowe'en party will be held at Mountain Park school this evening (Thursday), at 8:00 o'clock. A short program given by the fifth, sixth and seventh grades of the school will be a feature of the party, and In addition a variety of entertainment will be offered in the school gymnasium. This will consist of bingo, fortune telling, guessing contest, Hollywood pa rade, fishing, cakewalk, and pop ularity contest. - The public is cordially invited to attend the party. Mr. ind Mrs. Jack Ingram and daughter, Ailene, visited the former's mother, and family, at Jonesville, last Sunday. Thursday, October 31, 1940 ELKIN COUPLE ARE INJURED IN WRECK Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Eldrldge, of this city, were painfully Injured in an automobile accident on the EI k 1 n-Winston-Salem highway, below Donnaha bridge about 11 o'clock Saturday night when their car collided with a car, said to have been driven by Prank Lyons, negro. Mrs. Eldrldge suffered a broken arm and a broken leg and possibly internal injuries, . and Mr. Eldrldge was said to have been considerably shaken up, al though he is not believed to be seriously hurt. Both are patients in the City Memorial hospital in Winston-Salem. According to information, the Lyons car collided head-on with the Eldridge car, the Eldrldge car turning over down an em bankment. Lyons .was charged with reckless driving by For syth's Sheriff, E. Q. Shore. First Patient: "Do you think radio will ever take the place of the newspaper?" Second Patient: "No, not en tirely.
