Mr. and Mrs. Turner Black wood and daughter, Peggy, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Ernest McCurry, of Mooresville. Miss Hilda Gae Renegar, stu dent at W. C. U. N. C., Greens boro, spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Renegar. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Chappell and daughter, Dorethea, were the dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Melton Swaim, of Knobs com munity, Sunday. Mr. Earl Pardue, student at U. N. C-, Chapel Hill, spent the week-end here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Freel Pardue. Mr. and Mrs. Dett Underwood and son, Bobby Lee, of Winston- Salem, visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harve Groce here Sun day afternoon. Mr. F. A. Mr. Stanford Brown, of Boone, spent the week-end here with friends. Mr. Jimmy Smith, of Winston- Salem, visited here Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Myers had as their week-end guest, Mrs. W. H. Atkinson, of Winston-Salem. Mr. Eugene Martin spent Sat urday in Statesville attending to business matters. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Hampton and daughter, Sarah Prances, spent Sunday with the latter's mother, Mrs. D. W. Sprinkle, of near Dobson. Mrs. Dewey Helton and daugh ter, Anita Louise, 4 Misses Agnes Pardue, Nancy Hanks and Vir ginia Lineberry visited Mrs. Hom er Moody, of State Road, Sun day. Mrs. Ray Smith arrived home Sunday night after being a con valescent at the Baptist hospital, Winston-Salem, for the past two weeks. Her condition is much improved at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Delia Woodhouse Circle Meets Tuesday Night The Delia Woodhouse circle of the Baptist church met Tuesday night at the home of Mrs. F. A. Lineberry, with Mrs. Russell Smith as joint hostess. Mrs. M. H. Helton was in charge of the devotional. Mrs. J. W. Freeman was in charge of the program, "Europe," assisted by Mrs. W. J. Brown, Mrs. Will Hol comb, Mrs. W. I. Shugart and Miss Bertha Adams. Routine business was transact ed during the business session. Refreshments were served dur ing a pleaasnt social hour. BENHAM Next Sunday will be our regu lar preaching time. We extend to everyone a hearty welcome to come and be with us. Friends of Mrs. Mary Jane Phillips will regret to learn of her death Sunday morning. Her husband died two weeks and five days ago. Mr. and Mrs. Phillips will be greatly missed. We have on the sick list this week Mrs. Lodema Harp, Mr. C. A. Ross and Mrs. Jim Rose. Miss Vivian Ross has returned to her home after spending some time in Fieldale, Va., visiting friends and relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Emory Calloway accompan ied her home. Several people from this com munity have been attending the revival at Cool Springs this week and last week. [ POPLAR SPRING Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Laster vis ited the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bailey, in Mocksville Sun day. Rev. Lester Johnson, a repre sentative from the Thomasville orphanage, preached at our church Sunday. Before the ser mon he gave a talk on the or phanage. Mrs. Ella Isaacs, of Alountain Park, is spending this week visit ing her daughter, Mrs. R. S. Guyer. Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Hayes, of High Point, visited relatives in this community over the week end. Rev. Richard Day will fill his regular appointment Saturday night and Sunday morning. Ev eryone is cordially invited to at tend each service. Mrs. Ruby Hamby, of State Road, visited Mrs. Nelia Carter a short while Monday evening. Prayer service is held every Sunday night at 7:00 at our church. Next Sunday night Mr. Will Eldridge will be in charge of the devotional. Master Jimmy Burchette has returned home after spending a week with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Mcßee, of Maiden. Mr. and Mrs. c. E. RETURN DONATIONS BY SURRY TEACHERS All funds that had been con tributed to the Democratic cam paign fun.d by members of the Surry county school faculties have been returned to the office of John W. Comer. John W. Comer, superintendent of education, stated that Con gressman A. D. (Lon) Polger, na tional committeeman, returned the funds to his office saying that they were not needed. Mr. Comer said that the con tributions would be returned to each contributor as soon as pos sible. THE ELKIN TRIBUNE, ELKIN, NORTH CA BETHEL Services were held at the church here at Bethel Sunday morning and evening. The pas tor, Rev. R. J. Pardue, preached good sermons at both meetings to a very good congregation. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Caudill and children recently visited her parents in Iredell county. . Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Rose, their son and daughters, John Rose, Mrs. W. J. Potts, Mrs. Howard Pruitt and children, Jennie Lee and Howard, Jr., all of Mt. Airy, attended services here last Sun day and were the guests of the former's sister, Mrs. C. W. Gil liam, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Gilliam. Miss Verna Matthews, of East Bend, is visiting her sister here for a while, Mrs. Ellis Jester. Mr. and Mrs. Martin P. Green had as their guests last week-end Mrs. Green's sister, Mrs. Baity Larry, and children, Joan and Jimmie Dean, of Elkin. They at tended the Sunday morning ser vice here at Bethel. Mr. and Mrs* J. T. Triplette and little daughters visited Mrs. D. R. Gilliam and children, near Swan Creek last Sunday after noon. ' Mrs. Inez Ward, of Jonesville, was the week-end guest of Misses Lola and Anna Morrison, and ac companied them to Sunday school and church services Sun day morning. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Armstrong, of Winston-Salem, were business visitors here last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Will Roberts had as their guests last Sunday Mrs. John Roberts and daughter, Miss Ruby, and Mr. and Mrs. Grant Roberts, of the Maple Springs community. Mr. and Mrs. James Inscore, with their daughter from Mount Airy, were visiting his sister and family here the first Sunday, Mrs. J. C. Hemric. Mrs. Hemric, Mrs. Roy Myers and little daughter, Carolyn, spent last Wednesday visiting Mrs. Thomas Ma this at Cling man. Mr. R. M. Osborne, of Jones ville, is repairing his corn mill here located on Swan Creek. This mill is known as the "Bagley Mill" and will be operated by Mr. Nelson Caudill, who is mov ing near the mill. Mr. J. p. Mathis entertained his neighbors last Wednesday with a corn shucking. MOUNTAIN VIEW Mr. Calvin Shore, who is em ployed in construction work at Port Bragg, spent Sunday night at his home here. He was ac companied home by Mr. Butner. Those on the sick list this week are Misses Pauline and Ed wina Shore, Mr. and Mrs. Earnol Henry. We wish for them a speedy recovery. Mrs. J. P. Collins returned to her home here the past week af ter spending a week in Winston- Salem the guest of relatives and friends. Miss Vernon Van Hoy, of Win ston-Salem, was the week-end guest of her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Van Hoy. Mrs. Leonard Holleman and children, of Hanes, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. WILKES SINGERS TO MEET NOVEMBER 28th The regular semi-annual meet ing of the Wilkes County Singers Association will be held at the county court house in Wilkesboro on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28, beginning at 10:00 o'clock a.m. All singers are re quested to attend and take part in the singing, and those who like to hear good singing are also invited to attend.
