SOCIETY Presbyterian Circle to Meet Monday Evening The Circle of the Presbyterian church will meet Monday evening at 7:30 at the home of Mrs. Lat han Mills on Circle Court. A Christmas program will be pre sented by Mrs, W. G. Peele. All members are cordially invited to attend. Miss Lorena Kelley to Speak at Methodist Church Monday afternoon at 3:30 Miss Lorena Kelley of Mooresville, who is a missionary to Africa and is home on a furlough, will speak at the Methodist church to a joint meeting of the circles of the Wo man's Society of Christian Ser vice. Following Miss Kelley's talk a program of Christmas music will be presented. At the close of the program the ladies of the church will honor Miss Kelley with an informal tea to the church parlor. All mem bers are urged to attend and visitors are extended a cordial welcome. Parent-Teachers Meet Tuesday Afternoon The monthly meeting of the Parent-Teacher association was held at the elementary school aud itorium Tuesday afternoon, with 50 members attending. Mrs. Harold Click, president, presided over the meeting, which opened with the song, "God Bless Amer ica," in unison. Miss Blanche Dixon was in charge of the devo tional period, and gave for the scripture reading the 100 th Psalm. Routine business was dispatched during the business hour. The program was presented by Miss Betty Harris' fifth grade, and was a playlet, "Book Friends," in observance of Book Week. Attendance prizes went to Miss Mary Virginia Barker's eighth grade in the high school and Miss Betty Harris' fifth grade in the elementary school. Week of Prayer to be Observed; Circles to Meet The Naomi Shell, Emma Leech man and Neal Young cirlces of the W. M. U. of the First Baptist church will meet in the church parlor each afternoon from Mon day through Friday of next week at 3:30 for a special program in observance of week of prayer for foreign missions. These meetings will take the place of the monthly circle meetings. Other circles of the organization will meet as follows: The Pearl Johnson and Rosalee Appleby circles at 7:30 on Monday evening. The Pearl Pohnson circle with Mrs. George Adams and the Rosa lee Appleby circle with Mrs. Clyde Carroll. The Pauline Moore circle will meet Tuesday morning at 10:30 with Mrs. S. C. Hudspeth and the Edith Adair circle will meet Tuesday evening at 7:30 with Mrs. Jack Terrell. All members are invited to at tend. Class Officers Elected at Meeting Tuesday Officers were elected for the Dorcas Class of the Sunday school of the First Baptist church at a meeting Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Stephen Morrisett on Church street. Officers are: President, Mrs. T. L. Pamell; first vice-president, Mrs. Noah Darnell; second vice-president, Mrs. Addie THE ELKIN TRIBUNE, ELKIN, NORTH CAROLINA Carroll; third vice-president, Mrs. Fred, Harris; fourth vice presi dent, Mrs. Freer Adams; secre tary, Mrs. Clyde Jennings, and assistant, secretary, Mrs. Garland Morrison. Mrs. W. T. Carter, Mrs. Ora W. Vanhoy, Mrs. Glenn Lewis, Mrs. Harvey Baker, Mrs. Grace Calloway and Mrs. George Adams were selected as group captains and Mrs. O. K. Richard son as pianist. Twenty-three class members and 3 visitors were present for the meeting, which opened with the hymn "Joy to The World," follow ed by the devotional period in charge of Rev. Stephen Morrisett. Blevins-Roberts Marriage is Solemnized Wednesday Of interest to friends here and elsewhere is the announcement of the marriage of Miss Virginia Blevins of Sparta to Irvin Roberts of Elkin and Roaring Gap, which was solemnized Wednesday even ing, November 27, at 8:30 at the Methodist parsonage on Market street, with Rev. Herman F. Dun can, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. For her wedding the bride wore dress of soldier blue, with har monizing accessories. Her bou quet was of valley lilies. Thomp son at Sparta. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Roberts, of Roaring Gap, and for sometime has been desk clerk at Hotel Elkin. Following the wedding Mr. and Mrs. Roberts left for Sea Island, Georgia, where they will reside. Mr. Roberts will be connected with the Sea Island Riding Academy there. AUTO DESTROYED BY FIRE SUNDAY NIGHT Fire, believed to have been caused by a short circuit in the wires, completely destroyed a 1936 model Ford belonging to Billy Eldridge, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Eldridge, on Sunday night. The accident occurred while the youth was driving near the Elkin Furniture company, on the Elkin- Dobson highway, about 9:30. The blaze flared up so quickly and so rapidly spread over the interior of the car that .young Eldridge narrowly escaped injury. Patronize Tribune Advertisers.
