Holleman, a well known minister and former teacher, of Jonesville, was a wel come visitor at Bethel church here last Sunday and preached an inspiring sermon at the morn ing service, using as his subject, "Kindness," taking his text from the 28th chapter of Acts. Mrs. D. S. Gilliam, her son, Flake Gilliam, Mrs. A. L. Trip lette, Mrs. J. T. Stroud and Mrs. W. H. Jones attended the funeral of the former's grandmother, Mrs. Lodemy Porter, at White Plains church near Roaring River, last Friday afternoon. We join the community in ex tending good wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mathis who were hap pily married last Thursday. Paul Is one of our finest young men. Several neighbors have called to see Mr. and Mrs. James Cau dill and family, who recently moved into our community and to whom we give a hearty welcome. This family had as their dinner guests last Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Guyer and daughter, Miss Willie Guyer, of near Elkin. Eugene Jones, a district repre sentative of the Winston-Salem Journal, went to Galax, Va„ last Monday after spending the week end here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Myers and little daughter, Carolyn, spent last Monday in Wilkesboro. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Stroud, of Arlington, and Mr. and Mrs. Sea man Dobbins, of Elkin, were the guests of their parents after ser vices last Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Stroud. Jarvis Bell and his sister, Miss Gladys Bell, of near Mountain View, visited their aunt here last week, Mrs. Lincoln Triplette. Mrs. J. F, Mathis spent a while last Sunday afternoon with her brother, Rev. Frank Weatherman, who is ill at his home in the Fall Creek community, and was the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Jones, and Mr. Jones, for supper at Arlington. Mrs. Monroe Smithey was con fined to her home last week with illness, but is better, we are glad to note. MULBERRY Rev. Miss Beulah Davis, of Winston- Salem, spent the week-end here with her mother, Mrs. Fannie Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Evan Smitherman announce the birth of a son, John Dennis, on December 6, 1940. Members of the junior class of the East Bend school enjoyed a weiner roast in the schol gym nasium. Teachers of the class were chaperones. Following the supper a number of games were enjoyed.
