t News of Parties, Clubs, Weddings i i TELEPHONE No. 96 I — Miss Dezern, Mr. Dowell, Are Wed Miss Pansy Madeline Dezern, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Dezern of Jonesville, became the bride of Samuel Lee Dowell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph D. Dowell of Jonesville, at 5 o'clock last Satur day with the Rev. Clifford Vestal officiating using the double ring ceremony. The bride wore a dressmaker suit of Avon blue gabardine with black accessories and her corsage was of white rosebuds. Following the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Dezern entertained the guests at an informal reception, at their home. After a brief wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Dowell will be at home at 204 Union Street. Winston Salem. The bride is a graduate of Jonesville High School and now holds a position with P. H. Hanes Knitting Company. Mr Dowell attended Jonesville School and is now employed ;u the R. J. DELWOOD SERINE JACKSON PHOTO BY REDMON) In an impressive high noon cer emony Monday, Miss Annie Charl ton Ipock. only daughter of Mrs. John Pierce Ipock of this city, and tire late Mr. Ipock, became the bride of Delwood Serle Jack son of Durham, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Claude Banon Jack son. at the First Baptist Chtfrch, with Rev. Howard J. Ford, pas tor. officiating. The double ring ritual of the Baptist Church was used. Prior to the ceremony, Miss Ef fie Crater, organist, and Miss Dorothy Mae Walker, soloist, pre sented a program of wedding mu sic. 4 Vows were exchanged before the altar banked with Oregon fern and Southern smilax interspersed with floor baskets of white glad ioli. The nuptial setting was softly lighted by tapers in seven branched candelabra. The bride, given in marriage by her brother, John Pierce Ipock, wore a gown of ivory satin fash ioned with a scalloped sweetheart neckline, long sleeves ending in calla lily points over the hands, i a fitted bodice joined by double 1 row of scallops to a full skirt which extended into a court train. Her fingertip veil of bridal illu sion cascaded from a beaded cor S onet and she carried a white prayer book topped with a purple throated orchid showered with valley lilies. Her only ornament was a strand cf pearls, a gift of ! the bridegroom. Miss Jane Stewart, of Char lotte, and Duke University room mate of the bride, and Mrs. J. Philip Strole of Raleigh, were the honor attendants. Miss Achsa Anne Shore of Boonville, cousin of the bride, and Miss Virginia Graham were bridesmaids. They wore identical dresses of holly berry red taffeta styled with round necklines, cap sleeves, fitted bodices and bouffant skirts. They wore matching red feathers in their hair and carried nosegays of white gardenias. The bride's mother wore a two pi ce suit of aqua gabardine with black accessories. Her corsage was of red roses. G. E. Jackson of Durham at tended his brother as best man. Ushers were J. W. Brooks, of Dur j nam: Walt Mason, of Chicago, 111., j and Bill Warlick of Newton, all : fraternity brothers of the bride groom. Immediately following the cere mony Mrs. Ipock entertained at an informal reception at the Gil vin Roth Y. M. C. A. Greeting guests at the door were Mrs. George. E. Royall and Mrs. Errol E. Hayes. Mrs. J. R. Poin ; dexter introducted the guests to the receiving line composed of Mrs. Ipock, the bride and bride groom, and members of the wed ding party. The bride’s table was overlaid with an imported lace cloth and centered with a four tiered wed ding cake on a reflector and top ped with a minature bridal couple. The base of the cake was encir cled with greenery and gardenias. Tapers in seven branched can delabra completed tire settling. After the traditional cake cut ting. Mrs. Jamie Shore and Mrs. William Prevette of Winston Salem, completed the serving. Mrs. Foley M. Norman, Mrs. Har vey F. Laffoon, Mrs. Joe.O. Bivins and Mrs. David Brendle poured coffee. Assisting in serving were l Miss Dorothy Jean Salmons, Miss Eleanor Hayes, Miss Nancy Har ris, Miss Grace Laffoon, Miss Ma bel L:eper and Miss Mary Ellen i Harrell. Following the reception the bri j dal couple left for an unannounc ed W'edding trip. For traveling the I bride changed to a suit of Avon j blue gabardine with which she j used a matching feather hat, brown alligator accessories and minks. Her corsage was the orchid I lifted from her prayer book. Mrs. Jackson is a graduate of Elkin High School and Duke Uni versity, Durham, where she w'as a meqnber of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She now' holds a book keeping position with Farmer’s Mutual Inc., Durham. Mr. Jackson attended Durham City schools and is nowr a member of the present senior class of Duke University, Durham, where he is majoring in economics. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Prior to entering Duke University he served four years in the Navy during World War II. Upon returning from their wed ding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson will be at home in Durham. Miss Dobbins, Mr. Kennedy, ToWed Announcement has been made by Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Dobbins of Boonville of the engagement of their daughter, Mary Elizabeth, to Paul Edw'ard Kennedy, son of Nathaniel Kennedy and the late Mr. Kennedy of Thurmond. The wedding will take place in February. Tribune Advertising Gets Results North Elkin P-TA Has Auction Sale A total of $111.00 was raised at an auction sale sponsored by the North Elkin School Thursday night at the school. The money will be used for the benefit of the I school lunch room. Pies, cakes, candies, canned foods and various other articles and also gifts donated by local ! r merchants were sold to the high est bidders. The cake baked by Mrs. Garvey Simmons topped the sales by bringing $4.50. Acting as auctioneers were Glenn Dobbins. Harvey Parks and Garfield Gam bill. During the evening the fifth, sixth and seventh grades present ed an impressive Christmas play, "The Birth of the Christ Child.” At the close of the meeting, an old fashioned cake .walk was en joyed.
