Dobson Church Group Convenes The Intermediate Girls Class of Dobson Baptist Church met at the home of Catherine Jackson on Monday evening of last week with 11 members present. The devotional service was con ducted by Mildred Baii. Catherine Jackson presided over the business session. Martha Sally Faulk was elected assistant personal service chairman during the meeting. At the conclusion of the meet ing, delicious refreshments were served by the hostess to the fol lowing: Mrs G. E. Mock, teacher, Ruth Harris, Mildred Ball, Iva Dean Alberty, Martha Sally Faulk, Reba Hill, Faye Edmonds, June Hepler, Mattie Mae Moser, Cath erine Jackson and Maurine Hayes. Miss Hayes To Wed June 18 Mr. and Mrs. Errol Edwin Hayes of this city, announce the engagement of their daughter, Eleanor to Ensign James Egerton Myrick of Newport. R. I., son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Blair My rick, Littleton. Miss Hayes is a graduate of Womans College, Greensboro, and is now teaching in the city schools of Mount Airy. Ensign Myrick attended Marion Institute in Marion, Ga., and graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., with the class of 1948. He is now on duty aboard the destroyer U. S. S. William R. Rush. The wedding will take place at high noon on Saturday, June 18, in a home ceremony. Tribune Advertising Gets Results LaWrence-Eidson Vows Announced (PHOTO BY REOMON) MRS. R. S. LAWRENCE Mr. and Mrs. Robert Paul Eid son, Sr., of this city, announce to day the marriage of their daugh ter. Norma Jean, to Robert Sam uel Lawrence, son of Mrs. T. S. Lawrence of this city and the late Mr. Lawrence. The wedding took place on Thursday, February 3 at the home of the officiating minister, Rev. David W. Day. The bride wore a suit of tan gabardine with which she used navy blue accessories. At her shoulder she pinned a natural or chid. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence are members of the Senior class of Elkin High School. They are making their home with the bride's parents. Tribune Advertising Gets Results j Baptist Group Convene Monday The Womans Missionary Union of the First Baptist Church met for its monthly general meeting at the church Monday afternoon. Mrs. Silas Nichols presided over the meeting in the absence of the president, Mrs. C. N. Myers. The meeting was opeiied by the group singing their hymn of the year and an opening prayer offer ed by Mrs. E. C. James. The Olive Lawton circle was in charge of the program and Mrs. George Adams conducted the de votional service and the program using as her theme, “Christ the Answer for Christian Homes.” Mrs. Nichols led the closing prayer. Whlte-WallVoWs Are Announced Mr. and Mrs. James Corbett Wall announce the marriage of thgir daughter, Rosa Lee, to Mc Adoo White, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emery White of Dobson, at 2 o’ clock, Saturday at the home of the officiating minister, Rev. Ford Walker at Thurmond. For her wedding, the bride chose a gray gabardine suit. At her shoulder she pinned a natural orchid. Mrs. White received her educa tion at Elkin High School and at present is employed at Chatham Manufacturing Company. Mr. White attended Dobson School and is now engaged in farming. Since returning from a wedding trip to Washington, D. C„ Mr. and Mrs. White are at home in Jones ville. Wal ters of State Road, announce the engagement of their daughter, Peggy Lee, to Roy Webb, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Webb of Cliffside. Miss McAdams Is Engaged ToWed Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mark Mc Adams of Elon College, formerly of this city, announce the engage ment of their elder daughter, Mary Vance, of Elon College and Greensboro, to Hoyt Bruce Whit comb, son of Mrs. Hoyt B. Whit comb of Greensboro and the late Mr. Whitcomb. The wedding is planned for Saturday, July 2 at Elon College. Miss McAdams graduated from Elkin High School and the Wom an’s College of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, in 1948 where she received a bache lor of arts degree in chemistry. She now holds a position as labor atory technician in chemistry at Vick Chemical Company. Mr. Whitcomb, a native of Greensboro and graduate of Sen ior High School, attended Guil ford College, Greensboro. He ser ved in the U. S. Navy during the war and is now employed by Elec tric Supply and Equipment Com pany. Music Recital To Be Held Friday Mrs. J. Livingston Williams will present her piano and violin pu pils in a recital on Friday evening at 8 o’clock at the Jonesviile High School Auditorium. Miss Selma Guyer Is Feted Monday As a courtesy to Miss Selma Guyer whose wedding to Junius Emery Brendle of Boonville will take place on June 1, Misses Lucy and Agnes Gray entertained at a bridge-rook party on Monday eve ning at their home on Franklin Street. Six tables of bridge and one table of rook were in play during the evening. Miss Mamie Dyer was awarded high score prize in bridge and Mrs. Sam Gray, run ner-up. Mrs. V. L. Renegar won the high score prize in rook. The honoree’s place was mark ed with a corsage of red roses and she was presented a gift of sil ver in her chosen wedding pat tern by the hostesses. At the conclusion of the pro gressions, strawberry shortcake and coffee was served.
