News of Parties, Clubs, Weddings TELEPHONE No. 96 I_ Bailey-Milan VoWs Are Spoken Miss Ethel Marie Milan of this city, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Claude Milan, was married at 10 a. m. Saturday, to Hassell Herman Bailey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dempsey Bailey of Winston-Salem, at the home of Mrs. Annie Pauls, West Main Street. The Rev. Howard J. Ford of First Baptist Church of ficiated at the double ring cere mony. The bride wore a suit of navy gabardine with gray accessories and an orchid corsage. Mrs. R. C. Milan, the bride’s only attend ant. wore a suit of gray gabardine with black accessories and a cor sage of gardenias. R C. Milan was best man. Following the ceremony an in formal reception and cake cut ting was given by Mrs. Pauls at her home. The bride was graduated from Elkin High School last June and was formerly employed by Belk Doughton Department Store. The bridegroom, a veteran of eighteen months with the U. S. Marine Corps, received his educa tion in Winston-Salem schools and attended radio school in Kansas City, Mo. Following the wedding trip the couple will be at home in Rock Hill. S. C.. where Mr. Bailey is employed as engineer with WTYC Broadcasting Station. Supper was served buffet style from the dining room table which was overlaid with a white linen cloth and centered with a minia ture bridal couple standing under an arch entwined with ivy. Helen Dobson Circle Meets The Helen Dobson circle of the Woman’s Society of Christian Ser vice of the Grassy Creek Metho dist Church met at the home of Mrs. Dewey Mason last week. Eleven members, two new mem bers and two visitors were present at the meeting. The meeting was called to or der by ‘ the vice-president, Mrs. Clifton Davis. Devotionals were conducted by Mrs. Hubert Adams and prayer was led by Mrs. O. D, Smith. Alex Chatham, Jr„ were hos tesses at a dessert-bridge party m Thursday afternoon at the Gil dn Roth YMCA. Upon the arrival of the guests, 1 tempting ice course was served. STILLER In a pretty ceremony solemnized at the Island Ford Baptist Church, Saturday evening at 7 o’clock, Miss Perlie Margaret Wilhelm, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. FJ. Wilhelm of Boonville. became the bride of Eu gene Lee Stiller, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Stiller of Badin. The Rev. R. J. Purdue, pastor of the bride, officiated, using the double ring ceremony. The couple entered together to speak their vows before the altar arranged with Oregon fern, white gladioli and lighted candles in seven branched candelabra. The bride wore a dress of blue jersey with winged sleeves, plung ing neckline and draped skirt. She used black accessories and her only ornament was a double strand of pearls. Her corsage was a white orchid. Mrs. L. P. Martin, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Hanford Wilhelm, brother of the bride, was best man. Immediately following the cere mony, a reception for members of the immediate families and close friends was held. After the reception, the couple left for a wedding trip to South ern points. For travel the bride changed to a wine suit with which she used black accessories. Mrs. Stiller is a graduate of Boonville High school and Draugh on Business College and is employ ed by the N. C. Veteran’s Commis sion of this city. Mr. Stiller is a veteran of World War II having served six and one half years. He attended Badin High School and Southern Tech nical Institute, Hickory. Mr. and Mrs. Stiller will make their home in Jonesville. Jaycees To Meet At YMCA Tonight The regular meeting of the El kin Junior Chamber of Commerce will be held tonight at 6:30, in stead of 7 p. m„ at Don’s Grill as was first planned. W. N. (Bill) Stevenson, club president, said that those who wish to leave the meeting at 7 p. m„ in order to attend the Wilkes boro-Cliildren’s Home football game at North Wilkesboro may do so. He encouraged the pooling of automobiles among members for those who expect to attend the game. WEDNESDAY The Youth Fellowship of the First Methodist Church will have a scavenger hunt at 7 p. m. The purpose of the hunt is to collect I clothing to be sent overseas. THURSDAY The Little Theatre of Elkin will meet at the Gilvin Roth YMCA at j 8 p. m. Dickerson Funeral Conducted Sunday Funeral service for Mrs. Katie Mae Andrews Dickerson, 53, of j State Road, was held at the Mount j Pleasant Baptist Church, yester day at 2 p. m. Mrs. Dickerson, the widow of McKinley Dickerson, died Friday evening at her home following an illness of several months. Her condition had been critical for about a week. Surviving are three daughters, ; Mrs. Oliver Walters and Mrs. J. A. Haynes of State Road and Mrs. L. M. Logan. Jr., of Miami, Fla.; one son, W. M. Dickerson, Jr., Cin cinnati, Ohio; three grandchild ren; three brothers, E. R. Andrews of this city: Arl Andrews of State Road. W. N. Andrews of Los An geles, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Mack Landreth of St. Helens, Ore., and Mrs. Monroe Landreth of Newark, S. D. Funeral service was conducted by the Rev. J. D. Wyatt, pastor of the Mount Fleasant Baptist Church of which Mrs. Dickerson was a member, the Rev. J. L. Powers and the Rev. George Wal ters. Burial was made in the church cemetery. G. W. Wood, 39, Traphill, Dies Funeral service was conduct - this afternoon at 2 p. m. fcr George Washington Wood, 39, of Traphill. who died Wewnesday in a government hospital near Ashe ville, following a three week's ill ness. The son of Robert and Sarah Richardson Wood, he was a veter | an of World War II and was inar 1 lied to Mrs. Ocea Wood, who sur ! fives. Also surviving are six children, Paul, Pearl. Vaughn, Howard, Iva j Dean and Rosa Lee Wood, all of I the home; five brothers. Jack and Barney Wood of Traphill, John : and Walter Wood of Lexington and Will Wood of Roaring Gap.
