WILKES SCOUTS YEAR REVIEWED Successful Year of Operations Reported As District Of ficers Nominated AT NORTH WILKESBORO Reports of a successful year of operations were received and rec ommendations were made for dis trict officers in the annual meet ing of the Wilkes Boy Scout dis trict held Tuesday night in North Wilkesboro. The nominating committee made the following recommenda tions, which were unanimously approved by the meeting, to the council meeting to be held in Win ston-Salem Tuesday night: W. K. Sturdivant, district chairman: Gil bert Foster, vice-chairman: Rob ert Gibbs, district commissioner; L. M. Nelson, district committee man at large. Joe McCoy was chairman of the nominating com mittee and other members were T. E. Story and E. G. Finley. Robert Gibbs, district chairman this year, presided. Joe Edwards, field executive, explained the printed report which was distri buted to the more than 50 attend ing the meeting. The report show ed progress during the year. Joe Barber, finance chairman, made his report on the finance campaign. He reported $3,535.37 collected to date, with pledges ex pected to boost the total to about $3,800. It was a joint campaign for Boy and Girl Scout programs. It was urged at the meeting that work continue in effort to reach the goal of $5,400. W. K. Sturdivant spoke briefly and urged maximum effort in the Scout program during the coming year. Others on the program were Sam Vickery, chairman of ar rangements, and Rev. W. N. Brookshire, who opened the meet ing with an invocation. W. E. Vaughn-Lloyd, of Win ston-Salem, executive of the Old Hickory Council, urged attendance | at the council meeting and pre sented the principal speaker, Dr. 1 Stanley A. Harris, of Boone. Dr. ; Harris is a retired national execu tive of Inter-Racial Relations of Bov Scouts of America. _ Former Yadkin Man Dies In Florida Charlie A. Cozart, 84, former resident of Lone Hickory for many years, died at his home in Win ter Park, Fla., Tuesday. He was j a well-known painter. Survivors include three daugh ters, Mrs. E. M. Renegar of Lone Hickory: Mrs. Evella Salmons of Yadkinville; Mrs. J. B. Steelman of Winston-Salem; four sons, A. H. and F. W. of Mocksville, and C.
