The latest election news from tbe State at large is that tbe Dem ocratic majority for Ayceck and the Amendment is, in round fig ures, 59,553. The Senate branch of the Gen eral Assembly will be 36 certain and untemGed Democrats: 10 Fusionists, and four who are un certain. . There will bo only two Popu lists in the lower House, and tbey are frou Sampson county. Of couse tbere will be some Repub lican representatives-but only two "lonesome Pops." Mecklenburg, Edgecombe and Robeson are tbe banner counties, so far as tbe vote on constitutional amendment is concerned. Ea:h gave it 3,500 majority ; New Han over ranking second with 3,410. As to Wayne county, she has done nobly. The canvassing board is now in session, but it will be some day next week be fore we can get tbe full vote tab ulated. Lidie Stevens was born November 9, 1868 and died July 14, 1900, She was converted early in girlhood, under the ministry of Rev. R, P. Bibb and joined the Methodist Episcopal churcb.Soutb, at Falling Creek, and until deitb lived a consistent Christian. On January 25. 1888, she was mar ried to B. L. Stevens and unto them was born three children. Only one survives, a girl about 10 years of ago. Hers was a hopeful, cheerful disposition, and always looking on tbe bright side of life, for to ber life was a joyous realiiy -hence it was bard to givo it up.
