Even if the proposed issue of graded school bonds for the en largement and improvement of the public school facilities of this township carried wi h it a coni siderable increase of taies we would still feel that Goldsboro could not make a belter invest ment for assured results In gen eral progress; but when we con- der that these bj:;ci- can ba and are to be issued without an ocreasa of taxes, and their pay ment safely prov ded fur under the present public school tcx of the township, we feel that every ilizea should be on tiptoe of in- a erest for the day of election, to endorse with his vjte this pro position, that means so much for he progress of our city along all avenues of legitimate enterprise nd material devehpnent. What the Graded Schoo', within the period of its existence, has accomplished for Goldsboro is an object lesson that every citi zen can study wuh pride and lontemplate with grati ude. In fact, before the Graded school was established in our midst Goldsboro was well we Jont't like to draw the parallel oetweeu the town in those days aud the proud city of the pres ent. Why, even the churches then, few in number, were the same bina1!, ban' tabernacles t La' our forefathers cons: ruc'.td away back iu the ti'ties: 1 her-: was no maguiiicmit and imposing St. I'aul M. E Cliurcl ; here was no Primitive B'.pnst ct;urcb; there was do Jewish Sycag"gu- ; there was no Citho.ic church; there was no St. John M. E. churcl ; there was no Holiness church; there were none of the several denominational chapels, there was no Second Baptist cburcb; neither had the First Baptist church nor the Presbyterian church been enlarged and beau tified, aud pips orgaus were un known to the services save in the Episcopal Church. But with the advent of the Graded School Hmong us, dissem inating its beu'gn i. fljenco over all classes of our cn'z jns. educai lion, the hat dmaid of religion, tias widened the 'h'uvh's of men, bus macid men in recoii z- int of and n-spuusivij to their duties iu ad spheres of Jiving, md in con?, quenc, besides iui!diug up in tneae iatler years the best town iu ttie Stale, we!e have sen J out to the universities 1 10 and co1 leges of the nation ta eur7 , w trained in i-ur Graded Sehotl 6 that has won the higfast honors, and into the world at large young n;eu and young women who are making their inipress for good upou their genera: ion and for tne betteruidit of those who (-. trie after them, and all of whuin ret., ived their early train ing am; u. i,: of character iu tne (i'lidhb ,ru Graded School.
