Swindell, presiding elder, will be in attendance, For the usual offense a negro was lynched in Johnston county last night, about four miles from Smithfield. His name was Jim Baily, aud his victim was a 12 year old white girl. In addition to the other attract tions at Seven Springs to-mor row will ba a match game of baseball between the Mt. Olive and Parks teams, Both teams are said to be in good condition and the public may expect to see a good game. Capt J. W. A white tramp passed off a counterfeit half dollar in this city to-lay, and hardly had he left the store before the lady clerk, with the spurious coin still in her hand, discovered the "queer" and sent a small boy af ter him, but he made good his escape. The steamboat Goldsboro has been temporarily transformed from a freight to a passenger boat in Brder to make the trip to Sayen Spjings to-morrow with comfort to the paseengers. The lower deck will be fitted with chairs to seat the passengers, while the upper deck will be left open for the benefit of thoso who may wish to promenade and take " in tbe'Bcenory. Railings have been placed around both decks. The boat will leave at 8 o'clock sharp. Tickets ere on sale at the Golds boro Drug Co., until 150 have been sold, which is the limit that can be accomodated. : : t Mr. J.E, Latham, of Newborn, a Wayne county boy, who has many friends in this city and sec tion, was taken critically ill with fever in Washington, IN. U., t ev eral days ago, and wag thence re moved to -Johns Hopkins Hos pital in Baltimore. We all ' wish for him a safe recovery. Oa the 2 ad of this month Messrs. Line & Roberts, of Faro, sent to this office the first cotton bloom that had been seen in that section. It came from the lands of Mr. J. W. Lane, culti vated by Stover Yelverton, a colored .man, who has a large crop which is in splendid condi tion, and who stands high in th? estimation of his landlord. Mr, Harry Lje McCall, the very popular young gentleman who has so long filled a position in the dry goods department of Messrs. H. Weil & Bros., has re signed his. position with that firm and left last night for Lex ington, where he goes to study the cotton mill business, which he proposes to make his perma nent occupation. The death of Mr, R, E. Lee occurred at his home in Mt.Olive this morning of spinal trouble, from which he had been suffer ing for the past six years. He was 34 years of age and leaves an aged mother and two brothers, Messrs. J. W. and Walter Lae, two sisters Mrs. Dr. J. W. Kornegay and Mrs, D. R. Perry, together with a number of friends to mourn his untimely demise. The funeral will be held from the Methodist church, of which he was a member, to-morrow after noon at 4 o'clock and the inter ment will be made in the ceme tery at Mt. Olive. EMERGENCY HOSPITAL. Report ot Executive Committee. The Executive Committee of the Emergency Hospital met in the reception room of the Hospi tal, at 9 a. m. July 1st, Membars present, Mesdames Sol Weil, E. B. B rden, S. S. Spier, Thos. Edmundscn, H. L. Grant, and Mr. J. Ro3onthal and Rev. F. W. Farries. Minutes of last meeting were read and approved. Mr. Rosenthal on account of a previous engage ment was excused. Mrs. Grant was appointed Secretary pro tern. The chairman reported that 9 patients had been admitted during the month, and recoived treatment in tho aggregate for 84 days. Phy8ic:an8 had visited the patients daily, and at times twice a day, and had treated a number of out door patientp. He also reported that $35.00 bad been received from pay patients eiace last meeting. It was resolved that pay pa tients will hereafter be required to pay weekly in advance, and that physicians and the matrons be notified of this rule. When tho patient is discharged before tho week expires the proportion ate amount will be refunded, It was aho resolved to instruct the matron to exclude all company not required for tho care of the pa tients. Mr?. Sol Weil was instructed to complete arrangements for the white washing and cleaning of the Colored Hospital. The Secretary was instructed to convey tho thanks of the Com mittee to Mrs. Dr. Sallie Borden Hutton for the generous donation cf her medicine cases surgical in struments and, medicines to the Hospital.
