OUR LOCAL OPTIC Boston Stars io the Massenger Opera House Tuesday evening. There were a great many coun try people in the city to-day, and a large quantity of cotton on this market. At the First Baptist church tbe pastor will preach mcrning and evening. Both services will be along tbe line of revival. Mr?. Dr. Edwards, of New York, nee Mif s Capitola Grainger, of KinstoD, is in tbe city, the guest of Dr. and Mrs. 0. W. Grainger. Mies Mary . The frost this week has played havoc with tbe flowers and there lore, tbe chrysanthemum show which was to have taken place Tuesday night for the benefit of tbe Emergency Hospital has been called off. Tbe company deserves the fullest possible support of our people. The Argus makes its beet how to its good friend Arthur Wtji.teley.the aggressive and ver satile editor of tbe Mi. Olive Ad vertiser, for his generous words of endorsement and good wishes for tbe Argus in bis issue of this week all of which we re ciprocate. People are bf ginn'ng to want to know where tbe city hall and market will bo erected. This question will ba decided by the boaid of Aldermen, and we doubt not tbat ihey will cocsuitthe pub lic mterets and act wisely in the matter. Perhaps cotton will touch bot tom when tbe South stops try jDg to sell it all in one day, and quit sitting at the exchange table playing scarper at their own game and having tbe cards deal so adroitly as to bewilder the man who is at the other end of the line. The mayor's report in yester day's A kg us should have stated tbat tbe 159 24 was received from costs ia 22 cases during tb month of October. The fines all go to tbe school fuod under the ruling of the Supreme Court and they were not included in tbe re port. At the met ting of Choral Society last Tuesday night it was decided to make the Emergency Hospital a neat litllo puree out o the $68 now in the hands of th treasure and keep only a smal amount to buy mus e. Tee Society will sua noid t gotta r and meet twice a month to ting for their own pleasure. AS TO GOOD KOADS. The Goldsboro Chamber of Commerce at its recent meeting disouased with much interest and consequent enthusiasm the ques tion of better public roads lor this Section, and on motion of Mr. Sol Weil, the president of tbe chamber was instructed to appoint a committee of five, oi which committee he was to be, ex-offloio, chairman, to wait up pon tbe Board of County Com missioners and solicit the coop eration of that body In an effort to secure a visit to Uoldsboro of the Southern Railway's good roads train tbat is now visiting some of the western cities of the State giving lessons in the art of building county roads. This train was lately in Wins ton, and has been in Ashevule this week, and Raleigh is making an effort to secure a visit early n January, as will be seen from an article elsewhere in this Ibsus, and Goldsboro can readily have t here if our people will take bold of the matter in the proper spirit and act promptly and in concert. Mr. Geo. C. Royall, president of tbe Chamber of Commerce, bas, under the above refer-ed to revolution, appointed the follow ine excellent committee to con fer wi.h tbe Board of County Commissioners, which meet in special session on Thursday of next week. November 14: Messrs. Sol "Weil, Geo. A. Norwood, Jr., J no. L. Borden, Chas. Dewey and John Slaughter. We are satisfied tbe Board of County Commissioners will do tbeir full part in securing a visit from this crood roads train; and when this shall have been ac complished then let the people from all sections of this territory oh invited to Goldsboro to wit ness tbe practical lesson of how to build good publio roads.
