AS TO CLOGGED SEWEftS. The Board of Aldermen Are Ur ged to Remedy a Standing Grievance in This Regard. Go'dsboro, Dec. 17th, 1901. Eeitob of the Argus, Dear Sir: Lt9st summer when the weather was quite warm, and we were having so much rain that water furrows and trenches bad to ba cut through the rock pavement on Walnut street, to carry tbe wa ter from Miller's drug store cor ner to Southerland & Brinkley'e oorner, the sewer Lading Weston Walnut street, on account of it being e topped op with roots from tree', etc., ba? not for many months been able to accomp'ish its purpose. The Board of Aldermen were urged to have this sewer openod, and they replied by saying that it would n at do to excavate in such warm ea' her. We insisted that the danger from such work would not be any greater or as great as to haye the water pond up and stagnate in tbe sower a? it was then doing. Tbe C ty Father to whom we were talking agreed with us, but said, "Just keep quiet until ccol weather, and we will give the matter attention." When 1 came out this morning and found the water pipes all frozen up, and the ground every wbere bard frozen, 1 thought pos eibly it bad gotten cool enough to get to work on this sewer, and that it might bo well to call the attention of our City Fathers to it. It cettaicly should cot need any argument to prompt them to give this matter attend n. It has been in this neslectod condition for quite a while, as tbey well know. I wonder if we cannot induce them i) give this matter attention wh'le they are considering the location and erection of our coming, and we trust, magnificent City Hall? We might add here, if they will get to work on the sewer, have it opened and properly cemented, so that the present trorble is not likely to occur again, fill up the mu l hobs in the tt cets, we wilj not a k to bave tho City Hall lo cated on West Walnut street. Whin it was first given out that sites for Iocti(n ni ght be offered the city for tho building above re ferred to, it occurred to us that we ba 1 about tho bost locat'on for this building that v ould be offer ed, but wh i wo came to think tbe matter over, it also occurie l to in that wo were on the wrong side of the railroad. Knowing, however, that tho matttr is in the hands of a Board of Aldermen fully competent and excoediugly anxious to elo what is best for tho city, we aro giving tho matter of location of the City Hull and such things very little consideration. What concerns U9 most at present is tbe sewer re. ferred to, and ono othor eerieus matter t which their attention will bo called within the next few days.
