Items of Interest In and Around the City. About time to begin to get the school books together. , Now the question Is what is go ing to follow our flag to the pole. The two weeks term of Wayne Superior Court ended today, by limi tation. The close of the mosquito season Is near at hand, as early frost is pre dicted. The news from the bedside of Col. I. P. Dortch today is that he has again rallied, and is somewhat stronger. Next Monday the first Monday In September Is Labor Day, which haa come to be observed as a national holiday. Miss Pearl Creech, the milliner, accompanied by her assistant. Miss Mary Lane, left today at noon for the Northern markets to order fall good. On account of Labor Day Monday, which is a national holiday, the post office will observe the usual Sunday hours. The city carriers will make one delivery and one collection in the morning. Mr. Leon B. Humphrey, his hosts of friends will regret to know, Is con fined to his bed at the home of his mother, Mrs. M. O. Humphrey, in this city, with fever. We all wish him a speedy recovery. Mrs. L. H. Castex left last night for the Northern centres of fashion, and will be joined by their milliner Miss Myers, and together they will se lect a full fall stock tor the firm's popular and long established store in this city. ! Mr. Dock Thompson, a very pop ular young gentleman of this city, and an experienced salesman of wide acquaintance with the trade, has ta ken a position in the large and long established furniture store of Messrs. poyall & Borden. It Is with exceeding regret, that will be shared by our entire commun ity, that we chronicle the critical ill ness of Miss Eula Ormond, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L F. Ormond, in this city, and It is the sincere wish of all that she may be vouchsafed a safe recovery. On Monday night next, Septenv ber 6, Mr. Loren C. Bass will open the tenth annual session of his night school, at his residence on South John street Mr. Bass has been unusually successful with his enterprise, the best evidence of which is that it is now entering upon its tenth year. Miss Edna Bryner. formerly head of the county high school at Falling Creek, but now of the faculty of the Greensboro State Normal, is iu the city, the guest of Miss Sallie Kirby.
