Kelly, of Mount Olive, waa a business visitor in our city to day. The Argus is glad to report today that Dr. T. Malcolm Bizzell, who has been quite sick for some days, is very much better. Mrs. Harry Daughtry and chil dren, of Rocky Mount, are In the city to spend Christmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. M. Denmark. All the indications at this writ ing are favorable for an "old time" snowbound Christmas such as we used to have "before the war. Well, let her come! Mrs. Wiley Horne and little daughter Carrie, of Spencer, after a brief visit to her sister, Mrs. Rufus E. Smith, in this city, left today for home, accompanied on a visit by her little neice Callie Smith. Messrs. John and Charles Bigler, .-. the courteous contractors who are do ing the paving of our sidewalks, are off to Ohio to spend Christmas at their boyhood home. In the meantime the work is suspended here until their re turn. The new year resolution industry of 1910 will soon be in full awing. But in a "dry" town and State, like Golda boro and North Carolina, the old-time necessity of "resolving" being elimi nated there is not much left to give impetus to the resolution mill. The funeral of Aunt Harriett Foy, widow of the late James Foy, and one of the most highly esteemed "old school" colored citizens of the com- . munity, whose death occurred yester day, was held this afternoon from the colored Methodist Church on West Elm street and was largely attended. Although the suspension of the ' city ordinance as to the discharge of fireworks does not go Into effect un til Friday evening next, the Irrepress ible small boy, with Christmas in his bones, is having high sport dodging " the vigilant police and making the night air resound with the reports of cannon crackera and "baby-wakers." -' Master James Musgrave, twelve yeara old, of Saulston township, Wayne county's first prize winner in the boys' corn growing contest, has been awarded third prize in the State contest, which is 320 in gold. Young Musgrave is thus the proud possessor of 395.00 in gold. He won the first county prize, $50 in gold; the prize offered by The Argus, 325, and now he gt8 the third State prize. Good, for old Wayne county! "-nX T7T7 TV JklP: w$m(q Christmas GIFTS OF VALU We began our tractive an assortment as you usually find in large cities, but cent less.
