Save One Street!
Editor Workman : To-morrow
closes the bar-rooms around the
court house and .its corners, and
we appeal to the Commissioners to
save West Market from the corse
of the saloon, that our ladies and
children may have one street upon
which they can walk without fear
of being annoyed by drunkards go
ing in and out of these shops, from
which no good, but evil, continually
flows.
Let the ladies* get up a petition,
AT ONCE. There’s danger ahead

THE LATEST.
Portsmouth, . O., Juno 28.—A
terrible disaster occurredto-day at
a place about three miles north of
here. Some workmen were exca
vating for the purpose of laying a
foundation for a pile of the South
Shore Kailroad bridge when the
bank caved in and crushed six of
the men to death.
Flemingsburg, Ky., June 28.—
The war in Rowan county is by no
eaded, The escaped Tol-
liveres are now in Elliott county,
their home, rapidly recruiting a
large following and this week pro|
pose to retake Morehead, kill
every man they can who took part
in the recent killing of Craig Tolli
ver and three of his supporters
and then burn the lown. Col.
Tolliver, is at the head of the
movement. Col. T. and a cousin,
also named Tolliver, were arrested
in Elliott county Friday, on a war
rant from Rowan county, and
placed in jail at Martinabnrg.
That night a mob of forty or fifty
Tolliverites broke into jail and res
cued the two prisoners. There is
intense, excitement again through
out Rowan county in anticipation
of the proposed raid. John Rog
ers, one of the Tolliver men who
had such a narrow escape from
death at Morehead last Monday,
arrested at Mt. Sterling. He
is charged with murder.

Why the Indians Killed the
Dog.—An amusing incident, which
resulted fatally to a poor dog, oc-
cured at an Indian wigwam near
Lewiston, the other day, between
Professor Maeallister. the magi
cian, and the noble redskins. The
Indians had a small dog which the
professor took quite a fancy to,
and he made himself quite famil
iar with the brute by patting and
petting him. He asked the In
dians how much they would take
for him; to which they replied they
did not want to sell him. The pro
fessor said, “Him very valuable
dog,” at the same time rubbing
him down the back to his tail
length, and at each stroke taking a
handful of money from the end of
his tail, also from bis mouth, nose,
and ears. At these strange pro
ceedings the Indians stood in awe
and astonishment. After the pro
fessor left their premises the In
dians took the dog down to the
river brink, where the poor brute
was doomed to die an ignominious
death. There they killed and dis
sected him, with the idea that from
his carcass aplenty of “boodle”,
could be taken.—Boise City (Ida
ho) Statesman.
A Permanent Cure of Piles.
bwiPT Specific Company, Atlanta, Ga:
Dear Sirs—Six bottles of S. S. S. cur
ed me of a very bad case of piles. I had
had them a year. Physicia and med
icines up to the time I began your med
icine had cost me, in one year, two hun
dred dollars, but I got no .permanent
relief until I took Swift’s Specific. I
only used six bottles* The fiist effect
was to improve my appetite and aid my
digestion. At the end of the sixth bot
tle I was entirely well.
Yours truly/ T. E. Mubpht.

paper giving an account of the
cordial manner in which Buffalo
Bill is being received in England,
and said: “Only a few months

here he is being received by the
crowned heads of Europe. Either
the Queen or I have formed a

There have been some wonderful cures
effected by these medicines in this city.
Several cases of pronounced Oonaump-

a few bottles of Dr. King’s New Dis
covery taken in [connection with Elec

Oatmeal is the Household,—In
Great Britain children of all ranks
are raised on a oatmeal diet alone,
for the reason that it causes them
to grow strong and healthful, and
no better food can possibly be
found for them. It is also quite
as desirable for the student as for
the laborer, and for the delicate
lady and her hard working sister.
Indeed, all classes would be great
ly benefited by its use, and dyspep
sia, with all its manifold annoyances
can be kept at a distance. Oat
meal is' a more substantial food,
it is said, than veal, pork, or lamb,
and quite equal to beef and mutton
giving as much or more mental vig
or, while its great desideratum con
sists in one’s not becoming weary
of it, for it is as welcome for break
fast or tea as is wheat or graham
bread It can be eaten with syrup
and butter like rice. It ia espec
ially good for young mothers, up
on whose nervous forces too great
a demand has been made, and
they lose the equilibrium of the
system and become depressed and
dissipated. Oatmeal requires to
be cooked slowly and the water
should be boiling hot when it is
stirred in.
An Octogenarian’s Testimony.
Swift Specific Company, Atlanta, Ga.:
Dear Sirs—My blood was in bad order
and weakened down from old age, I
being eighty-three years old. Iliad
asthma and malaria. I took about ten
bottles of S. S. S., which cleansed my
blood thoroughly, cured the malaria and
made me feel almost like a young man.
Yours sincerely, L. Elbod.

Will Build up the Weak Children.
The Swift Specific Co., Atlanta, Ga.;
Gentlemen—Swift’s Speoiflo has had
wondei*fnl effect in building up my
young son. He was fourteen years old,
weak, slender and unable to play with
the hoys. After he had taken a half
dozen bottles his strength was greatly
increased, his spirits excellent, and he
could play with the boys as long as the
strongest of them. He could run like a
deer. I can safely recommend S. S, S.
to mothers who have weak,, puny chit-
dren; it will build them up. Yours,
respectfully, Mrs. W. 'W. Cheebv.
