Mr. Thenis, tw ;ling agent cf the Manufacturers RJtord, viio passed through here tliis morning, inquired if any one here knewof Aaron Gardner, who went from this county to Indiana over fifty yean agd. adding ,4IIe was my grandfather''. iThe Workman re porter informed Mr. Phenis that he kr.cw Sylvanus (Vfnus) Gardner, who was a very old ny.n in 1838, near which date he died-. Policeman Weatherly was seen this morning, on South Kim Street, having in custody and marching close to his side a black boy, apparently seventeen years of age, who was alleged to have struck a man in South Greensboro, yesterday. There was an appearance of social equality as the two marched along together, but it was more appa rent than real, as,when the two reached the lock up, the unfortunate offender was put in prison to await trial, while Mr. Weatherly would be hunting around ior other game. RELICS OF THE OLDEN TIME, Mr. The. E. Cook, of Friendship, this county, has quite a fancy for the things which have come down from antiquity. He has a shovel and tongs, made by his grand-father, Isaac Cook something like a hundred years ago. The shovel has been worn off and re stored, but the tongs are as good a; ever. : Mr. Cook says they perform most admirably never pinch your fin gers, and will take up and hold the smallest bodies with ease to the opera tor. . : ";. .. . ; .. ; -.: Mr. Cook also has some of the plows that were in vogue when he was a boy, and he has had them laid up, that his sons may be able to appreciate the ad vantage in the modern implements of husbndry. This is a good idea. DEATH OF MRS PARRISH. Mr Nancey Parrish, a daughter- of the late Elijah Chilcutt, A widow of about 75 years of age, died at her home near Fair Grove church, of whidh she had been a life-long mem bejc, an Monday last, and on yester day her funeral, conducted by her pas tor, Rev R H Wills, took place at Fair Grove. One of the fpt's or.;csr.ed two or three hundred dollars in money, and this sup plied the two with the "sinews ol war." A catholic church was dedicated at Winston, on Sunday last, by Bishop Haid, assisted by by .Rev. F. Francis of this city. The church is a neat one, and the Twin. They ought to hav help. OUR FAVORABLE CLIMATE. Friend Alfred Coffin, who went from this county to Indiana to live, has come to. Guilford College, where he will spend sixty days with a view of es caping the rigors of the Indiana win ston. NEW IMPROVEMENT Co. AN EPIDEMIC It looks very much as if there wa an epidemic of running away among horses when we read accounts of such things in the newspapers of the coun try. Such things often happen in the arge cities. W. C. T. U. There will be an important meeting of the local W. C T. U., Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock at headquarters.
