The present generation is peculiarly ncivoui and impatient, and it in not unlikely that the great speed of travel to which men have now attained has contributed smartly toward producing this impatience. On this line of thought read the following news item: "A drove of 166 tuikcys re.ir.hci! has been di- here to-day, having been driven on vided into 3 1 Jots, and will U iitd aa above. The number of white women in this city who earn their own livelihood in different callings is estimated, on ro-xl authority, to be as high as six thou sand; but whether these figures ate ex actly correct or not, the number of white women who support themselves in mis city oy their own labor m proba bly greater in proportion to the popa lation than it is in any of the Southern cities. Indeed, the proportion will bear very favorable comparison with the number of women employed in the great cities of the North. This fact speaks well for the liberali ty of sentiment which prevails among those w ho control the industrial inter ests of this community. The enlarge ment of the industrial sphere of wo men is one of the most truly benefi cent movements of this enlightened age. We have mauy men amongst us whose example carries great weight, who have used all their influence in fa vor of extending every onnortunitv of self-support to women, and in doing so inty nave not only carried the grat itude of the class so honorably assisted, but have also conferred a very substan tial benefit upon the whole communi ty. The owner or owners of the hogs in suchscascs rode on horse -back and were enabled to go before both to sell and to arrange for entertainment. A Kentucky hog driver was often neftfw more nor less than a giant, especially when, at the close of his day's travel having eaten nothing since breakfast,he sat down to make a "square meal" at a well kept country tavern. In a news dispatch from Winston to a Richmond paper, in relation to the return of the two young females who ran away from Winston and were re cently brought back at a cost of some three hundred dollars to their parents, the writer says the girls cost their par ents "a great deal of trouble besides." No doubt of it. ' The patriarch Jacob is not the only one whose childi en have brounht down their cray hairs with sorrow to the crave. These young Winston girls were very foolish, They would have been better off in a very sorry home than they were run nine away to a stranee portion of the separate country. ' - JlISt'lILLANEOlS.
