' - A GREAT COUNTRY. A citizen of the good old State ot North Carolina ought to be some what proud of some of its advantages. hee are various, and it would be interesting to consider them. Wheth er w dwell in the centra! part of the State or in the Et or the WeM, we shall find some peculiar advantages I was only last evening that we were tpaaking with a UJy from Halifax county who was naming some of the nselul products oi that section where, within the patt few yetrs the discov cry baa been made thit the toil is ca pable of producing the fine yellow tobacco which brings such fine price in the markets. First, shi aaid tha her busbuid had made from his small farm three hundred gallons of e ce lent syrup. . Then she spoke of the fine crops of rice that the farmers hd been making. Besides these things cotton and corn grow finely, the lor ests contain material for lumber oi white oak, red oak, cypress and heart pine, and in the Spring of the yesr fine white had run up the streams of water. It is clear to the mind of every intelligent person that the advantages here enumerated are very many to be found in any ot.e section of the coun try, and the people whose Home are there are possessed of wonderful re sources oi comloit ,md profit. But there !anotbertwblch sheuld,be added to those already named, and that is the winter pasturage in the marshy lands, upon which cattle can subsl.t through the entire winter. ' - - Tne question arises here-Is there any part of the world whose resources are as numerous ? Until such a place is pointed out and proved, we thai! say no. To recapitulate, here is the list t corn, cotton, tobacco, rice, syrup.fish, lumber and wimer pasturage, to say nothing of peas and sweet potatoes, grapes and fruits of all kinds, which abound in great profusion. RETAINING HIS HOLD ON GREENSBORO. Mr T W Waynick, who has been here on a visit from Bristol, has sold his b ouse and lot in this city to M' S J McCauley, and has bought two lots of. the McMahon property, which shows that he is in favor of retaining his hold on our promising city. We think, and so does he, that he has made a good investment. MEETING LAST NIGHT. Those who were present last night in the meeting in the interest of the Roller Flouring mill were impressed with the evident purpose and 'deter mination ot the persons who partici pated in the proceedings.' '. It was a meeting expressing a great ,dalin addition to the action taken. WHAT IT IS. '.
