He served one year as Worshipful Master of the local lodge; then as High Priest of the Royal Arch Chapter, and later as Prelate of the Kn-ght Templars. In the Grand ldge of the whole State, he first' served :l- l"i-tr:C Kepuly for the forty-first District (Madison and Haywo-d1 '..untie-1 ; and then received the high distinction of Grand Chaplain of North Carolina. Mr New was made a thirty-second degree Mason of the1 S.otfsh Rite !a-t November, and was then elected "Orator" of the Class.
