A new registration is necessary and all who desire to vote in the election for tow officers must register on or before the 25th of April. As a member of the House, Mr. Morris served with tact and ability, as a member of the following committees Judiciarv, Courts and Judicial Districts, Education and Penal Institutions. He was born in Rutherford .county iu 1873, was educated at ..Rutherford College and having finished the law course at Wake Forest College he was I licensed in 1900 and began practice at Columbus,- Polk county. In 1902, he married Miss Mary McFarland, .a daughter of Angie McFarland, of Polk county. T, Ballenger, the Senator from the Twenty-Third Senatorial District, asked, as to his church. re lations, said,: "I am a Baptist one of those bell ringing, fire build ing, preacher paying species." He is a man of splendid ability and defence asked that the case be con tinued until the next term of court owing to the absence! of several material witnesses. j The, following criminal cases were disposed of the latter part of the week : j Bo wen Constant, Robert Parker, Crawford Davidson ; affray. $10.00 and costs for Constant and $5.00 and costs each for Parker and Davidson. Roland Thompson, colored, steal ing chickens j 12 months in county jail with power to County Commis sioners to hire out. 1 W. B. Conner ; concealed weap ons. Judgement suspended on payment of costs. Smith and Posey, colored, were sentenced to 12 months in the county jail for car breaking, with power to County Commissioners to hire out. C, in 1853, and came to North Carolina in 1877. He received only common and academic school advantages. His youthhood days were divided between work on the farm and that of clerk in a country store. Enter-, ing the mercantile business on his own accor4 he met with good -success. He has served as Mayor of Tryon, and as chairman of the Boar I of Education for Polk county. He owns a large landed estate and is the largest tax-payer m Polk county. He served accept ably as a member of the Committees ; P Agiiculture, Insurance, Insane, TPentions, etc. Raleigh Observer. HON. J. P. MORRIS. Elected to the lower house as a member of the General Assembly, as a temperance man, Representa tive J. P. Morris, of Polk county, Championed the London bill in that body, voted for the Watts bill and would have voted for any other bill restricting the sale and manu facture of whiskey. Mr. Morris Will Bruce and Shed Shehan will takf an appeal to the, Supreme Court through their atiorne'v W. A. Smith, of Henderson ville. These two men are now in the county jail .where they will be held U!)ti.l given a hearing Wore the Supreme court in Raleigh, May 6. Que civil case, Hiving ys Gosnell will also taie an appeal to the Supreme court. j he Grand Jury reported that they had visited the county home and the jail. The former was found by tbera to be in good condition, but they recommended that a new root be put on the jail. Judge Jones was not. satisfied, and asked the jury tiiat'two new steel structed in the jail, one for white and one for colored prisoners so that this county will' not have to send prisoners to another county for safe keeping. Everyone seemed to be pleased with Judge Jones and his decisions gave general satisfaction! Judge Jones is holding court in isurke County, this week.
