P.Bfifi ATION AL SALLY i ; Tjiis ' issue of The News will rpbitbly reach most of our readers Jjuieisday nigut and we -wish to call (keiition again to the importance jpl attending the Educational Bally f wiiich will take place on Wednes day, August 19th. The programme is au interesting one and all who Attend will be benefitted in many 'ways. Everybody ought to take active interest in the great cause of education. It is the duty o every citizen and every parent to do all in his power to further the interests of this great cause. One vrny of doing this is to attend the Educatioual Kally on Wednesday and to influence all your friends to attend.! ' Dr. B. F. Dixon, Hon. Locke Craig, Capt W. T. R. Bell, B. A. Justice, and J. E. Shipman, have agreed to address the people. All are interesting speakers and you will enjoy hearing them. Music will be furnished by the Henderson ville Band. Don't fail to attend. THE WRECKS ON SALUDA MOUNTAIN. Another wreck has occurred on Saluda mountain just below Mel roan and near the same spot where so many truins have been destroyed lately and where many a brave and faithful employe of the Southern Railroad has been hurried into eternity while trying to do his duty. ' At present three families are mourning the death of loved ones which were suddenly taken from them by the wreck last weeki The agony suffered by these S'ltf lino ril 1 naiHi Xr mrmv I anyone but themselves, but that it was intense is evident from the I lact that most ox the bodies when found are mangled and bruised almost beyond recognition. Yet all, this suffering and loss of life does not seem to move the Southern Railroad officials to any other action than that of clearing away be debris. And trains are now running on the same' track as if nothing unusuaj had happened. A few thousand dojtlars will prob ably be given by the Southern to the afflicted 'families, but this will abl' put baok the members that were taken away nor will it prevent other disasters. v The wrecks on this mountain are increasing at an alarming rate and stringent measures should be taken to avoid the loss , of 'human life which this death hole" has caused. If there is no other remedy, then the state and county ought to condemn this portion of the road and compel the Southern Railroad to take another route. , This continual loss of life should and must be stopped at all hazards. The time to act in this" matter is now, ine state officials who have! the power to act in such cases, have allowed this Saluda mountain "death hole" to exist too long and further delay will probably be at the sacrifice of other lives. The Fourth Quarterlv Conference of the Green River Circuit will be held at Bethlehem bv "Rav. T. HI. Sffiuf: of the charge are earnestly re quested to attend.
