Ersxin. Mrs. C. P. Thomas and W. H. Stearns, whose property the new road from Lynn to Tryon losses over, heard the case Wed nesday and awarded damages in u a i "of the above named parties a, f .Mows : C. E. Erskin, $310; Mr- P. Thomas, $250; W. H. Set -ar ns, $112.50. This makes a total of $672.50 that the road t usttes of Tryon township will p.y for damages. Adding this a mount to the cost of building t!i3 road will make the new Lvnn-Tryon road cost the town i'nip from $1400 to $1500. Having heard of a good many weddings which took -place at close of the old year, we can but believe the girls made good use of their last opportunities. Bradley and family are snudy settled in their new'home on Green River near the White side bridge. May they hae suc cess in their new home. Born to Mr. and Mrs. ' Marcus Laughter recently, a boy. Our community has been quite alarmed over an unsuspected case of measles which broke out among us. Weaver, of Melvin Hill, was a business visitor here Tues day and Wednesday. F. M. Stearns, of Cleveland, Ohio, arrived here Monday even ing and is making Log Cabin Inn his headquarters. He expects to remain here several months. Mrs. Stearns accompanied him as far as Asheville and is stopping at the Victoria Inn in that city. She will Join Mr. Stearns here later when spring weather comes. Mr. Stearn3:says he comes here for a rest but, nevertheless, he has been as busy as anyone here ever since his arrival. Mr. Stearns expects his son, Frank, here in about a month. , The hard rain Wednesday night raised the stream at the F. , L. Weaver place, so that on Thurs day morning the mail carrier, C. E. Page, could not cross it and had to return. The stream had lowered enough by afternoon so that he was able to cross with the evening mail. - . Guv Bowie, of South Carolina, who has been attending school here this season, has bought the livery stable f rom F. M. Stearns and it is said that Mr. Bowie and T. E.
