Messrs. Hill and GLTenn Take Pleas-- aht Trip To- Neighboring ; County. ' The writer had the pleasure of making a visit to Polk county re cently and was accompanied by Mr. J. W. Hill and family, of Rutherf ordton, R. F. D. No: 1. The visit was greatly enjoyed by the participants. The first call was on Mr. Smith, v of . Sandy Springs, where we were greeted with .courtesy. Mr. Smith is a man full of energy and perseyer- ence and has accumulated a lot of real estate. He raises his hog and hominy and does not depend on Northern markets. We as visitors, wish him a grand success in the future. Our next call was at Mr. C. C. Owens, where we were met by both Mr. and Mrs. Owens with a snmnathetic crasD of the hand - x- a and a smile of welcome upon their faces. Mr. Owens is annotiier man that raises his hog and hominy. He is a native of Ruth erford county and is held with high esteem by all who know him. He has secured him a beautiful home about one mile from Poors' Jora, ana judging irom ail ap pearances he is living a happy prosperous life. We then drove to Mr. H. C. Calvert's, of Poors' Ford and upon our arrival was met by two Deauuiui, nttie gins, we are constrained to believe that these two little girls are an idol to their father and mother, owing to their gentle manners and ingeniousness in their household affairs. Soon Mrs. Calvert came out and greet ed us with a hearty welcome. She escorted the ladies into the nouse, ana oeiore we got our mules out Mr. Calvert came un - T and received us with a hearty welcome. Mr. Calvert is a good man and from the looks of his surroundings the mice never visit his flour and meal barrels and leave them" crying because there isn't any there to partake of . He lives on the borders of Broad and Green river. The next call was at Mr. P. Henderson's. We found him as usual enjoying life. He is a man of good moral character and is liked by all his aquaintances, and from the looks of his surround ings prosperity is shinning in everyday. He is addingimprove ments to his residence, which adds greatly to its appearance. Our next call was at Mr. J. I. Ridings. We were met with greetings of welcome by hand shaking and great joy. Mr. Rid ings is well known in Polk and Rutherford counties and is highly esteemed throughout both count ies. He has some valuable real estate between Broad and Green rivers, where he is raising corn in abundance, and a splendid cotton farm where he lives. He has two beautiful young girls and the boys are casting their eyes in that direction. The people of Polk county are doing well and are growing rapid ly in .wealth. -We had the pleasure of attend ing the,- Sunday School at Green River, which Was largely attend ed. J; W. You need not go to mind reader or clairvoyant to ascertain what your mental ; tendency is and what is the chance for sound healthful development and in creasing grasp and vigor of ihought. Write down a list o f all the books you have read during the last twelve months and consider their value, , their formative power, their elevating and broadening tendency. If they are lacking in these, they la"ck all that is worth anything. If you do not find a thought, that sets your mental machinery in active motion, in the first twenty 0090000000000009000 o o o Rock If e o . o o o o G o o TRYON TRYON, Prices O0oooooooooocoooeooooooo9ooooooeoooao LOG OPEN Mrs. M. Read them is such a way that you will get more between the lines than out of them. Read such books as compel you to al most shout for joy as though youj had made a great discovery. Read with pencil in hand and dictionaries and reference books at your elbows. Let your mind be richer and fuller; and your sympathies stronger and deeper, and love springing up in your soul as a well-spring of new life after reading a good book. Make the book better and more attractive by your reading with side notes and pencil marks. It was said that it was a great pleasure to lend Coleridge a good . book. . It was returned doubled in value by his additions in the way of notes and pedcil marks. If you have been reading some of the , light, pleasant literature that is forgot ten in a few days, let it alone and take up something more instruc tive. There are two many good books for one to waste' time in reading light and frivolous ones. Review the list of books you have read recently and see if there is not a necessity of a reform.
