THE HOMt CIRCLE. They Joine Home Circle At Evening Tide. WE CAN tyAKE HOME HAPPY. J Though we miy not change, the cottage For a mansion tall and grand, : Or exchange a little grass plot For a boundleis stretch of land Yet there's something brighter, nearer, : Than the wealth we'd thus Command: Though" we. have no means to purchase Costly pictures, rich and rare Though we have no silken hangings For the walls so cold and bare We can hang them o'er with garlands, For flowers bloom everywhere. We can always make home cheerful, If the light course we begin; We can make its inmates happy, And their truest blessings win; j It will make the small room brighter - If we let the sunshine in. ' ' When we gather roundthe fireside When the evening hoursare long, . A j t j ' t . - . - . ' e can oiena our "earis ana voices In a happy social song; ' " W"e can guide some erring brother, ..' Lead him from the path of wrbng. We may fill our home with music, And with sunshine brimming o'er, If against all dark intruders We would firmly shut the door Yet, should evil's shadow enter, must love each other more. Thereare treasures for the lowly ' Which the grandest fail to find; There is a chain of sweet affection Binding friends of kindred mind We may reap the choicest blessings ' 1 From the poorest lot assigned. - The enemy is more easily re pulsed if we never suffer him to get within us, but, upon the very first approach, draw up our forces and fight him Without the gate. - I A man who lives right has more power in his silence than another has by his wrds. (Char acter is like bells which ring out sweet music and which when touched! accidently even, re sound with sweet music. Every parent should feel to the greatest extent the responsi bility of training their little ones; they should know that their characters must be shaped, their lives must go on; only one, found ation can be laid, only one structure built; but the building must go up, and parents are greatly responsible for its merit. How prayerfully we ought to strive 'to help l them lay such; a foundation on earth that their structure may be projected be yond the stars. THE HOLY LAND. The beauty of the Holy Land at this season and the peculiar ceremonies ., enacted i n the oriental churches combing to draw to the Holy City pilgrims and tourists from every corner L; earth to witness these in - . i g celebrations. No other ..';' ir the world presents so opolitan an appearance as v-ilem does at this time, r ins, Latins, Copts, Armen - ' Syrians, all gather in large t ers in the Holy City for week. The Russians, to i Easter is the greatest ty of the 'year, are re nted in largest numbers, walk wearilyover long unices attired in the quaint sian garb carrying their pro . : ions in knapsacks on their backs. They suffer many dis comforts on this long pilgrimage in the hope of thus winning eternal salvation for themselves or for the wealthy penitents in whose proxy they come. They belong to the briental Greek, church. As they proceed thru the country their melodious sing ing fills the air. EASTER PLANT LEGENDS. The Christian legends connect ed with pllants generally explain their behavior . during Passion week. The aspen still shivers with remorse because when Christ passed, it had boldly faced the heavens instead of bowing its head in .. company with- the other trees. .The Savior cast one look on it, and the memory of that sorrowful glance is handed down even to this generation. The willow was used for the scourges and ever since it has dropped its arms in misery. The elder is commonlv sunnosed to .be the tree upon which Judas nangea nimsell, and it is not even to be touched as firewood. However, it affords a safe re fuge in a war ring of the) ele ments, for not even lightning will -deign to strike it. A fungus that grows on the elder and is now known as Jew's ears was originally called Judas' ears. The exalls, or wood sorrel, was standing at the foot of the cross and received some drops of the precious blood. These she still parries. The Italians have the same legend and call this little blossom "alleluia," as ,if the very flowers rejoiced in the great gift to the. world. The scarlet anemone,! too, is said to bear the stains of Christ's blood. WORK MAKES MEN. Work makes men. Luck usually fails. Plu ck nearly always wins. T o succeed I in anything' one must overcome obstacles. Force and fibre a r e built by hardships. Grit is as necessary in the making of a man as gumption. Hardships are not always handicaps. Often they are helps. You will understand this better in twenty years. Meanwhile permit one who has lived that twenty years and more, to advise you in tfiis. Hang on to your job until Vou are sure of a better one. De pendable boys are in demand. And no boy can be depended upon who does not finish the task he sets his hand to do. However disagreeable our work, doit thoroughly. Do it better than the average boy will do it. In that way you will come to be known as a dependable boy. And mind you this: Men every where are looking for capable, honest, gritty, dependable boys. The sooner you let people know that you are that kind of a boy, the sooner you will get a better job. And don't be in a hurry to give up the work you already have. Be sure something .better is offered. Wait awhile. Do your work well. Pronation will come. And do not envy the boy who has an easy time. You would much better pity hinii He has a good time now, but some day he must "make good." 1 With his flabby muscles and his asy habits and his many wants e stands a far poorer chance than you. Remember above all, young fellow, you are making a man of yourself. , All the world over Easter is a season of great rejoicing, as everything begins to cast off the dinginess of winter and nature herself exhibits the spirit of resurrection. Palestine, the spot where, the resurrection we com memorate took place, is supreme ly emblematic of the season, be cause there the spring suddenly bursts forth and all the verdure and flowers spring up as though a magic wand had been waved over the land, -for the excessive dreariness of winter is broken in the orient when it is still winter in western lands. All smart up-to-date women of to-day, 1 Know how; to bake, wash, sing and to play; i Without these talents i a wife is N. G. : " - Unless she takes Rocky Moun tain Tea.
