Paker. of the State Depatment of Agriculture wide ly known as a practical and suc cessful farmer and a working Democrat, is a candidate for nomination for Commisssioner of Agriculture at the hands of the Democratic party. Miss Esthar and her brother, j Ragon Bradley, visited T, C. Laughter last Sunday. Mr. Jessie Parvis, who lives near here is very low with lung troble and we wish for him a speedy recovery. Mrs. T. E. Walker and little brothe, Henry visited M. C. Hill, and family, last week. The Brights Creek Baptist Sunday school, has besn re-or- 1 ganized with Rev. B. P. Jackson as Supt. and C. G, Walker, as as sistant. Let every one attend and lets have an interesting meet kg every Sunday. Mr. G. H. Hill, visited friende and relatives near Myra, last Sunday. Last Friday about 1 o'clock P. M. Lee Fisher shot and fatally wounded R. F. W. Allston while he was stand ing on the side walk at the office of the Tryon Hosiery Company. Fisher was standing only a few feet away when the shot was fired, which entered Mr. Allston's left breast, and produced death within an hour's time, although a physician was immediately summoned and every effort made to save the mans life. The cause of . the quarrel and fatal shot is not known. Mr. Ed Foster who stood near the parties at the time, say to Allston "if you talk that way to me I will shoot your heart out." During the excitement that ensued Fisher escaped and has not been apprehended. Rewards to the extent cf $1100.00 has been offered for his arrest, 500.00 by the Tryon Hosiery Company, who had Mr. Alliston employ ed as book keeper, and $500. 00 by the State, and $100.00 by Mrs. Allston. It is reported that these men had a quarrel the day be fore the killing. Mr. Allston had many friends in Tryon and vicinity, and his tragic death is deplored by the people generally. ROBERT ALLSOH. Robert Francis Withers Alison was a native of Georgetown, S.C the sen of an Episcopal clergy- man, a grandson of Governor Alison of South Carolina and a graduate from the University of S. C. He was thirty-four years of aire and came to Trvon about lg94 from Union, S. C. In 1897 he married Miss Beatrice Holmes of Bowman's Bluff- Mr. Alison had engaged successfully in the grape culture and owned several profitable vineyards. He was an active member and vestryman of vhe Church of the Holy Cross, and at one time a member of the town council. The funeral was held at the church Sunday in th-j presence of a very large congregation which had gathered to witness the last sad rites over the remains of one who was beloved by all. The honorary pail-beareri were Messrs. T. T. Ballenger, Jno. Orr. W. E. Strong, E. E. Missil dine; active Herbert Wilcox, Harolti Doubleday, F. P. Bacon, R. B. Engle, Earle Grady, W. F. (Swann, B. L. Ballenger, F. S. llcox. Rev. E. N. Joyner read the beautiful and impressive of the Episcopal church and the in terment was in the family lot at the Tryon cemetery. Anderson of Clay was chosen district elector. W. C. Robertson is the committeeman from Po'k. FIRE IN LANDBM Landmm Mar. 16. The store of McMurray and Lowe was de starved by fire Friday night at 1 o'clock. Nothing was saved, and therewas no. insurance. The build ing belonged to J. S. Carpenter. It is reported that the door was found open and that the saf was blown. It is said that about $40 in cash, which was hidden in a barrel was either stolen or des t oyed. Thermal Be)t.
