Scout Troop 45 Camped A two day encampment with the emphasis on advancement was held this past week-end for the Scouts of Troop 45, Rose Hill. Those participating in this week end of training and fun were: Jerome Her ring, Clifton Jernigan, Alfred Ward, Don fiuckner, Mike Wil son, Steve Castaen, Warren Ramsey. BUI Hall, Keith Hatch er Ronnie Casteen, BUI Sutler, Robert Surratt, Clarence Bro wn, Jr., David Savage, Tracy Lanier, Jr., Samual D. Her ring, Tommy Orangie, Douglas Faircloth and Richie Jones. Walter J. Thomas, Jr., Scout master of Troop 45 was assist ed in carrying out the purpose of this week end of training by Reid Casteen, Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 45, Je rome "Archie" Herring, Assis tant Scoutmaster of Troop 45 and Reverend Lester La Trade, Pastor of Mount Zion Presby terian Church, Rose Hill. The training began with the Scouts being required to set up a regulation camp site whi ch included garbage disposal pits, fire place, supply of Are wood and the proper erection of tents. Upon completion of setting up "camp" the scouts prepared a meal for themsel ves with the emphasis on cleanness and proper method of preparation. On Saturday morning, the scouts arose ear ly to begin training by taking a short hike. Training in sig naling, Judging distances that one cannot cross and heights that one cannot climb, cooking for oneself and a buddy ac cord to a pre-arranged menu and how to carry, use and pre pare a sharp instrument, such as an ax, for camp use was the order of the day. Other phases of training covered dur ing the day were: review of knots, identification of wild eatable plants and roots, and demonstration of several types of lashing. A five-mile advance ment hike was taken by the scouts who are presently of Tenderfoot rank and who as pire to be of Second Class Rank. So that the Scouts could at tend the church of their choice, they returned home early Sun day Morning. Surviving are three daught ers, Mrs. Cleo Boney, Mrs. Ludy Brown, Mrs. Recie Tea chey of Wallace; six sons, De Witt, Kirkew, Stanley, and P. Vivie Wilkins visited Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Wilkins Thursday near Warsaw Mrs. Ruth Herring returned last week from Lake Texoma, Okla, where she visited three weeks with relatives, a brother and several nieces and neph ews. Mrs. Roland Sullivan was admitted to Wayne Memorial hospital Friday for treatment. Mrs. Tipp Scott and Mrs. Oarrie Scott visited the Ivey SulUvans in the Oak Ridge Community Sunday afternoon The Rev. and Mrs. Francis Garner and children spent Fri day night at Middlesex with the M. L. Johnsons, and visit ed in the F. W. B. Children's Home. Karen who had visited the Johnsons a week returned borne with her parents, on Sat urday.
