MEETS The Woman's Society of Ch ristian Service of th Rose Hill Methodist Church met onMon day night, Feb. 7, at 7:30 at the church for their general meeting. The president, Mrs. Gran ville Sheffield, presided and the meeting was opened with the group praying the Lord's Pra yer. The minutes were read and approved and treasurer's re port given. A most inspirational worship and program was presented by Mrs. Marvin Johnson on the to pic, "Where the women Are." She was assisted by Mrs. Cla rence Brown, Mrs. D. J. Fus sell Sr., Mrs. Kenneth Far rier, Mrs. Donal Teachey and Mrs. C. W. Surratt Jr. The meeting was closed with prayer. ROSE HILL HEART FUND DRIVE The Heart Fund Drive U be ing organized in Rose Hill bv the chairman, Mrs. Llllie Bell f Brummttt. The leaders are Mrs. Kenneth Farrior. Mrs. Charles R. Mosback and Wal ter J. Thomas. The business firms will be solicited either this week or next. The house to house can vas will be conducted next Sun day afternoon, February 20. The leaders wlllbe assisted by high school girls and Boy Scouts (not in Scout uniforms). Everyone in the Rose Hill area is asked to give gener ously to such a worthy cause, when called upon. ROSE HILL GIRL MAKES MEREDITH DEAN'S LIST Miss Linda Carolyn Rackley daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Rackley of Rose Hill, is among senior students at Meredlty College on the Dean's List for completion of first semester work with a high academic stand ing. Her grade average must be equal to high B for a Mere dith student to qualify for the Dean's List. Specifically, she must have successfully com pleted 12 or more hours of work with a number of quality points equal to twice the num ber of hours plus three. The office of Dean L. A. Bans age 49 died In Duplin General Hospital Mon day afternoon, after a lingering illness. Funeral services were conducted from the Maple Hill Baptist Church at 3:00 Wednes day, by the Rev. W. a Rowe and Rev. K. D. Brown of Bur gaw. Burial followed in Bans Family Cemetery. He Is survived by one son, Malcom Bans of Wilmington. Two brothers, R. P. Batts of Clinton, B. P. Vans of Liberty. Four sisters, Mrs. S. G. Lanier of Beulavtlle, Mrs. W. G. Ca venaugh of Wallace, Mrs. G. C. Fisner of Jacksonville, Mrs. L. A. Powell of Wilmington. Several neices and nephews. JULIUS F. BROCK Julius Franklin Brock, 62, died suddenly at his home near Kenansvllle Monday morning. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday after noon at 2:30 conducted by Rev. Stephen A. Smith. Interment followed In the Brock Family Cemetery in the Sarecta Com munity. He is survived by his wife, the former Sallle Heati of Jones County, one daughter, Mrs. Nel lie Breunan of Woodbrldge, Va., four sons, Julius of Hampton, Va., Rlfton C. of San Antonla, Texas, William and Robert A. Brock both of Warsaw. One sis ter, Mrs. Clara Jones of Beu laville and fourteen grand children. Cut And Sew Center Has Fashi on Show The "Cut and Sew Center" of the Dobson's Chapel Commu munity gave the Community De velopment Club a special treat Monday night, at their regular monthly meeting. The "Cut and Sew Center" Is a sewing class under the sponsorship ofthe Ja mes Sprunt Institute with Miss Florence Dobson as lnsturctor. The class presented the club with a fashion show of the gar ments constructed by the mem bers of the class. The three week old class had several garments rated as excellent. Class members modeling th eir exhibits were Mrs. Ger trude Stalllngs, Mrs. Edith M. Dobson, Mrs. Mary L. Moore, Mrs. Annie a Johnson, Mrs. Bernlce Newklrk, Mrs. Margie Frederick. Farmers will receive a notice of the meetings set up to explain the projects In detail and also to make a determination of the possible number of acres that will be grown by farmers of the county. EGG GRADING SCHOOL HELPFUL Carl Tower of the Depart ment of Agriculture and egg marketing specialist with the N. C. Department of Agricul ture and Tom Morris, Extension Poultry Specialist of State Col lege, conducted an egg market ing school. The school was held in the Agricultural building in Kenansvfile on February 2. Morris talked to the group on egg quality and how to main tain the quality. Tower discussed egg grading A or B. Assistant Agent, Snodle Wil son, stated that this is a train ing program for employees of egg hatcheries as well as for producers, and presents prac tical information which can be put to use. The 35 or 40 persons attend ing were shown slides on grad ing eggs and an open discus sion was held for the listeners to ask questions and take part in the demonstration.
