We are proud of our town - our churches, schools. Industry - but we feel there is room for a great deal of improvement We go about our business every day and fall to see, as a visitor does, the unmowed grass, the dirt in our street gutters, our sidewalks grown up In grass, weeds growing around ana back of our buildings in the heart of town, the unkept vacant lots, the litter, etc. Will you help us? Take a walk around your property and look at it as a stranger would. Do you have some rubbish that needs to be disposed of, a garbage can that should be kept away from the street, a side walk that needs cleaning? Ward, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Ward, Route 4, Box 208-A. Mt. Olive, N. C., completed an eight week construction machine ope rator course Nov. 17 at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. This show was planned for Ve terans Day and was postponed because of rain. We hope to plan another next year on Ve terans Dav. The American Le gion Post 127 Warsaw were spon sors of this show. Mrs. Henry L. Stevens, Jr., president, presided, club mem bers sang, "O Little Town of Bethlehem.' after which '"A Christmas Message* was read by Mrs. Stevens. Mrs. Marriner Introduced her brother. Attorney Robert L. West and Mrs. Graham Phil lips, Sr., who spoke and pro jected beautiful Christmas co lor slides from Colonial Wil liamsburg, Vs., Mr. and Mrs. Phillips recently visited this historical city. Mrs. E. C. Thompson, Sr., displayed a beautiful advent wreath, describing In detail the meaning of the four candles, ribbons, and star, adorning the top of the wreath. Mrs. Hector McNeil received the door prize, which was a beautiful madonna set. Delicious refreshments were served. Mrs. Sharpe Entertains Mrs. Avon Sharpe entertained the members of her bridge club Thursday afternoon at her home. Upon arrival, Mrs. Sharpe served a frozen fruit salad, crackers and coffee. Seoul New Troop 240 of Pine Ridge, sponsored by the Sandy Plain Free will Baptist Church, with WUbert Alllo as the new Scou master, recently participated In the Christmas Parade In Pink Hill. Their float, although not placing in the top three, was laudea by the community of pine Ridge. CAMPING TRIP SUCCESSFUL Tropp 41 of F alson, sponsored by the F alson Jaycees, went on a camping trip on December 9 and 10. Scoutmaster Tom Bryan was assisted by Curtis Cates in teaching camping skills and Scout requirements. TRAINING CONFERENCE HELD The following leaders are to be commended for braving the elements In completing tnelr outdoor training December 2 and 3 at Camp Tuscarora: James Turner of Post 46, Al berts on; BUI Faust of Troop 20, Warsaw; Freeman Raynor and Gurman Raynor of Troop 43 of Cedar Fork; and Rayburn Cottle of Troop 47, Beulaville. Instructors for the course In cluded Rod Dew and jay Thomas with Dr. Men Ausley and Larry Klngsley helping co-ordinate the events. A total of 34 from the council participated In the outstanding training session. O. A. CHRISTMAS BANQUET SOON On December 28th at 6; 30 p. m. the Naya-Win-Rar Lodge will conduct a re-union banquet in the St. Paul Methodist Church In Goldsboro. This banquet wUl be for Inactive as well as active members of the Lodge and we especially would like to have our old retired members come back and be with us for this occasion. The cost of the ban quet will be $1.50. Those mem bers who would like to anend should write Harry Rlvenbark, Wallace, N. C., for reserva tions from the Duplin Chapter.
