Warsaw Little League got off
to a good start Saturday with
and games at 2 and 4 PM.
President J.P. Johnson who
emceed the opening ceremotr
lea. Introduced the coaches pre
sent, who in turn Introduced
their teams. Coaches present
were Charles Hlnson, Rotary
team; Roger Phillips, Jaycee
team; Jack Boney, Lions team;
Kenneth Guy, National Spinning
team; and Emmons Garner, the
American Legion team. There
were also several aasistantco
aches present.
Following the Introductions of
the coaches and players, the pr
esident presented Mayor Ed St
rickland, who made appropriate
remarks and led the group in
the "Little League Oath". An
Impressive flag-raising cere
mony was carried out by a gr
oup of Scouts from the local
unit of the Tuscarora Council,
Boy Scouts of America. The
president then led In a salute
to the American flag.
At 3 P.M. the Warsaw Little^
League playing season was op
ened by Mayor Strickland's th
rowing the first ball over the
home plate and the game bet
ween the Rotary and American
Legion teams got underway.
The Rotary team with Witt Jon
es pitching, scored a victory
with 6 to 1 win. Dean Gaater
scored the first home run and
the only American Legion
score.
At 4 P.M. the second game
was played between the Nat
ional Spinning and Jayqiaes
teams. The National Spinning
team, with Bonnie English pit
ching, scored a victory with a
16-5 win. Michael Graham
of the Jaycees team, made the
second home run of the day
during this game.
This Saturday, at 3 P.M.
the Lions and Jaycees teams
will compete. At 4 P.M. the
National Spinning and the
American Legion teams will
play. The public Is urged to
stand behind Warsaw Little Le
ague and to encourage the Coa
ches and the players by att
ending the games. After the
closing of school games will be
played Monday, Tuesday. Th
ursday and Friday, 3:30 to 5:30

many to take place in NATO
maneuvers.
The maneuvers took place
January 29 to February 4, but
the troops returned to die Kan
sas post during March because
it was necessary to place hea
vy equipment back in storage.
This equipment is left in Ger
many for the 24th Infantry Di
vision?the Army unit that was
formerly stationed there and is
now on ready recall at any
time to support the NATO for
ces.
United States Air Force C
141 Starlifter Aircraft were used
to take the 24th back to Ger
many and return to the States,
an 8 to 10 hour trip from
Forbes Air Force Base, Kan
sas, to Germany.
The 24th Division soldier is
a member of Company A, 724th
Maintenance Battalion.
