National Conference Alan Brisson and Barry Croom of the South Lenoir FFA Chapter at South Lenoir High School attended a National Future Farmers of America Leadership Con ference in Washington, D.C. recently. The week-long Washington Conference was ^pld at a motor lodge and ^Kotel and the National FFA Center near the Nation's Capital. The FFA conference pro gram is designed to improve leadership skills, develop an understanding of the heritage, and prepare FFA members for more effective leadership roles in their chapter and community. The conference is also a forum for the exchange of FFA chapter activity ideas among members from across the nation. Besides the training ses sions, the 1981 program in cludes visits to Mount Vernon Plantation, the National Archives, Smith sonian Institution, Arlington National Cemetery, ana several other historic momu ments apd memorials in the around the Capital. A highlight of the con ference was a morning visit to the office of Senator Jesse Helms. Participants attended a Capitol Hill meal featuring a question - and - answer period with Congressmen and Washington leaders in business and industry. Barry, 16, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Croom Sr. of Seven Springs. His voca tional agricultute instructors are E.S. Howard and Bruce Patterson.
