Mr. and Mrs. Richard Magnolia Inspected Miss Priscilla riartle. director of small community economic development of the N.C. Department of Com merce in Raleigh, and John Gurganus. Duplin County development director, met in the Magnolia Community Building Sept. 2H for the inspection. They met with Mrs. Marjorie Pickett. Mrs. Sue Archer and Mrs. llene Guy. the. ladies of the com mittee for the Governor of Excellence program and members of the sponsoring organization, the Magnolia Women 's Civic Club. During the meeting Miss Hartle said they, the state, had a group ealled general developers that visit the small eontmunities unan nouneed. This group repre sents us with clients that are interested in bringing indus try to this area. We would like to thank the citizens for their eopperation in the Community of Ex cellenee program. We hope you will keep your premises looking neat and clean, not only for this group but for the pride in our community as a whole. Before the meeting ad journed. we were advised that in WW we would need to update the slides, book, pro file and other things as well as there will e a tour of the community. Alda Lou Edwards and Roscoe Futreal were united in marriage Saturday in the Maranatha Pentecostal Pree Will Baptist Church. A reception followed the cere mony. It was held in the Friendship Hall of the church. Elaine Brock returned home following surgery in Wayne Memorial Hospital. L.M. Bostic has returned to his home after treatment in Duplin General. Patients in Duplin General include Peggie Jo Baker, Annie Likens Brinson. Viola Dale James, Hazel R. Rhodes, Marilyn Morgan Sandlin, Lannie Waddell, Peggie Sandlin Whaley, Mattie Wheeler and Chesley Williams. Lois Parrish is recuperat ing at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Whaley. She had surgery in Lenoir Memorial. Amanda Edwards is re cuperating at home after being in Lenoir Memorial. U.D.C. Meets Mrs. Ida Miller was hostess to the John Ivey Thomas U D.C. chapter on Sept. 27th She called the meeting to order and Mrs. Lou Kennedy took charge of the rituals and led in the Lord's Prayer. Mrs. Miller led the chapter in the pledge to the U.S. Flag and salutes to the N.C. and Confederate Flags. Due to the absence of the secretary, Mrs. F.ffie Hamilton. Hazel Brinson served in that capacity. There were eight members present and nine paid their dues for the year. Mrs. Hines distributed the Confederate Courier, the U.D.C. maga zine. The treasurer. Mrs. Peggy Thomas, passed out the year book for 1982-84. The program was pre sented by Mrs. Irene Carroll. She spoke on the highlights of some of the greatest Con federate men who fought in the War Between the States. After the meeting ad journed.
