Kenansville News Mr. and Mrs. Bob Jones have returned from Houston. Texas, after a two-week visit there with one of Bob's sons and family. Mesdames Gladys Ed wards of Kinston and Lola Hill of Snow Hill visited Mrs. Margaret O. Dail last Tues day. Mrs. Viola W. Quinn ac companied by her daughter. Mrs. Wilma Gray Allen of Jacksonville, spent the week end with the Bobby Quinns in Zebulon. Visiting with the Bert Ala basters during the past weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Bert Alabaster and Mr. and Mrs. Cad Upchurch of Dunn and Mrs. Queen Glynn of Favetteville. Mesdames Louise K. Boney. Pearl C. MeGowen and Mae H. Spicer accom panied Mrs. Louise W. Mitchell to Harrells last Tuesday to the annual Christmas luncheon of the Battle of Rockfish Chapter of the D.A.R. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Spicer spent a couple of days last week in Bessemer City with her mother. Mrs. Juanita Hager. Teresa Garris, ' Dana Hatcher and Stephen Wil liamson are home from Campbell College for the Christmas holidays. Julia Spicer of UNC-CH is also home for the up coming holidays. Homrmaker* Club Mrs. Milton Rice, presi dent. was hostess for the South; Kenansville Extension Homemakers Club when it ?net with her Friday after noon. Dec. 17. She presided over the meeting which began by singing two Christ mas carols led by Mrs. Louise W. Mitchell. All prayed together The Lord's Prayer. The program. "Holiday Foods Using Nuts" was pre sented by Mrs. J.B. Stroud. She gave a brief history of the pecan tree and distri buted some tasty-sounding recipes using pecans and peanuts. Mrs. N.B. Bonev, secre tary. called the roll noting eight members present and two visitors. The visitors were Lena Carroll and Thelma Weatherly. Mrs. Bonev also read the minutes of the October meeting which were duly approved and she reported on the area meeting held in November. In the absence of the treasurer, Mrs. Boney gave that report. The club voted to give SS to the Foster Children's Christmas project. After closing with the club collect, a v. lal hour was enjoyed. Members ex changed Christmas gifts and the hostess served fruit cake, mints and nuts and other Christmas goodies with hot apple juice punch. Hospital Auxiliary The December meeting of the Duplin General Hospital Auxiliary was held Dec. IS at the General Store. After the business meeting, the 14 present enjoyed (dutch) lunch. Doris English pre sided over the meeting. The opening devotional was given by Mary Mullis. Her meditation was on "Christ mas Remembrances" and was followed by prayer writ ten by Ralph Cushman. The secretary. Thelma Taylor, checked the roll and wel comed one new member. Thelma Weatherly of Warsaw. She also read the minutes of the November meeting. Martha Swann, treasurer, gave a detailed report and the chart showing work hours was discussed by all present. United Methodist Women The afternoon circle of the Kenansville United Metho dist Women met jointly with the evening circle Monday night for their annual Christ mas party. They had a cover ed-dish supper in the fellow ship hall. Mrs. Worth Pearce asked the blessing. After the delicious meal, a business session was held with Mrs. Ed Rector presiding. Instead of exchanging Christmas gifts among themselves. . members put a cash donation under the Christmas tree for the Foster Children's Christmas fund. Mrs. W.M Ingram dedicated the gifts and made the closing prayer. There were lb ladies present. Eastern Star Kenansville Chapter #215. OES, held its annual Christ mas party at its stated meeting last Tuesday night. Sally Tyndall. worthy ma tron. and J.B. Stroud, worthy patron, were in their re spective stations. After the ritualistic opening and busi ness session, the program was presented by Louise K. Boney. She read a Christmas Prayer by Robert Louis Stevenson. J.B. Stroud read the Christmas Story from St. Luke. Ruby Newton read a poem entitled "God's Love is the True Gift of Christmas" by Helen Steiner Rice, and Gloria Brown led the group in singing a couple of carols. After the ritualistic closing, refreshments were enjoyed in the dining area and Christmas gifts were ex changed by the 19 present. The Bridgettes Mrs. Bert Alabaster was hostess for the Bridgettes Thursday night. The only visiting player was Bobbye Kennedy. Mrs. Amos Brinson captured the high score prize and Mrs. Ken nedy second high. The traveling prize was carried home by Vickie Vinson. For refreshments, the hostess served Italian cream pie with coffee, salted nuts and Christmas candies. Christ mas tallies and napkins were used, helping to make the evening more festive. Presbyterian Women Meet Circle #1 of the Women of Grove Presbyterian Church met Monday afternoon. Dec. 13, with Mrs. N.B. Boney. After the group sang "Silent Night" led by Mrs. A.T. Outlaw, the Bible study was moderated by Miss Annie Catherine Rhodes, who also presided over the business session. All present took part in the Bible study from Collosians. The topic was "The Cosmic Reconciler," For refreshments, the hostess, assisted by Mrs. J.B. Stroud, served cheese wafers, fruit cake, stuffed dates. Christmas candy and coffee. Circle #2 met Monday night with Mrs. Ann Houston. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Doris Sittcrson. who also gave the opening devotional and prayer. Mrs. Houston mode rated the Bible study, assist ed by Mrs. J.J. Wells. During the business session, they made plans to remember several of their members who are at the present time shut-ins. During the social hour which followed. Mrs. Houston served assorted cookies and cranberry punch to the nine present. Baptist Circles The Cora Stokes Circle of the Women of the Kenans vilic Baptist Church met with Mrs. George Penney on Monday afternoon. Mrs. Cleora Quinn Hudson pre sided and made the opening prayer. Mrs. Woodrow Brin son presented the program and made the closing prayer. Her topic was "Thinking in Swahili. the language of Kenya." For refreshments, the hostess served a con gealed Christmas salad with crackers, cookies and coffee. She was assisted by Mrs. David English. The Ella Cooper Circle met that night with Mrs. Ray Bell. The program and call to I prayer were given by Mrs. Amos Brinson. who also presided. She was assisted by Mrs. Frances Oakley and presented a Christmas pro gram which included several games during the social hour.
