Thigpen holds a bachelor of arts degree in mathe matics and history from At lantic Christian College and a master of arts degree in education and mathematics from East Carolina Univer sity. He retired in 1979 as principal of Beulaville Ele mentary School after 30 years in education. He is a life member of the National Education Association. Thigpen is married to Ollie Walston Thigpen from Greene County. His son. V\ Duvaul Thjgpen. is a 1973 graduate of Mount Olive College.
