Hospital Employees Receive Recognition Nine nursing service em ployees at Duplin General Hospital received special recognition for longevity of service on Dec. 15 at the annual hospital Christmas par'.. Recogni/ed for 20 years of continuous full-time employment were Mamie B. Kennedy and Edith Ezzell. The following seven were recognized for 15 years of continuous full time employ ment: Ruby Mincey. Peggy Faison. Ruthcl Whitehead. Sherry Wells. Gussie Carter. Daphnev Ezzell and Hazel Rhodes' Mamie B. Kennedy. L.P.N.. resides in Kenans ville with her husband. Ted. She has one daughter. Donna, who attends college at UNC-Chapel Hill. Ms. 1 Kennedy's hobbies include Fishing and gardening. She works on the medical surgical units at Duplin General. Edith Ezzell. a nursing assistant, lives in Rose Hill. She is single but is engaged to Richard Lamm, with wedding plans for Feb. 14th. Her parents are Mr. and M;s. Ch..rle - R. Ezzell. resi dents of Guardian Care in Kenans'.ilk. Ms. r-z/cll ha her pilot's license -nd is also an avid horseback rider. She works on the Second North medical-surgical nursing unit. Ruby Mincev. a nursing 1 assistant and mother of five children, resides in Rose Hill. Her favorite hobbv is sewing, making her own clothes. Ms. Mincev works ( on the Second South medical- t Surgical unit. Peggy Faison, also a nurs ing assistant who works on ' the Second North medical surgical unit, resided in Faison. She and her hus band, Gerald, attend the Moses Chapel Church in Faison. She is chairman of the decorating committee in the Ladies Auxiliary Club. 1 Ruthel Whitehead, a nurs ing assistant on the Second South medical-surgical unit, resides in Kenansville. She is < the mother of three children. She enjoys all of her church services, especially Sunday school and prayer meeting. Sherry Wells. L.P.N.. and her husband. Dodson. reside in Rose Hill. They have two children: Lynn, a graduate of UNC Wilmington, and Stewart, a junior at Wallace Rose Hill High School. The ' Wells attend the Rose Hill ' Baptist Church. Ms. Wells' hobbies include needlecrafts and quilting in the winter and outdoor gardening in the spring. She works in Duplin General's Intensive - Coro nary Care Unit. Gussie Carter. a|so an L.P.N, and who has worked in the hospital Intensive Coronary Care Unit since the jnit's opening, resides in Rose Hill with her husband. Buck, and her granddaugh ter. Rebecca. The Carters have three children, all mar ried and actively involved in their careers. One of Ms. Carter's favorite hobbies js needlework. Daphnev Ezzell, L.P.N., also works in the Intensive Coronary Care Unite. She and her husband. Robert David, live in Kenansville. They are the parents of five children: Mary. Robert Jr., Elaine. Pamela and Karen. They are members of the Kenansville Baptist Church. Ms. Ezzell has received ad vanced education in her specialty area, becoming a registered cardiology techni cian in 1975. Hazel Rhodes, L.P.N.. and her husband of 42 years, Marvin, reside in the Beula zille - Hallsville are? where he tarms. Ms. Rhodes is the mother of three sons, the grandmother of 10. and the great-grandmother of one. In addition to her family, she enjoys crochet ing, cross-stitching and spending her spare time at their cottage at the coast. All nine employees are to commended on their year* of devoted ?? riloyment at Duplin Geiferal Hospital. The commitment of such individuals helps provide the quality of care needed and deserved by patients at our hospital, said Anne B. Houston, RN, MSN, director of nursing services at Duplin General. ? _ Arts Council Presents Stevens In A Cart Week Performance Duplin County Arts Council will present affiliate artist Leigh Howard Stevens, vibraphonist. in a CART week public performance, Jan. 23-30. Leigh Howard Stevens is one of America's foremost marimba virtuosos. He has greatly expanded the compo sitional and musical possi bilities of the marimba through the development of a new technique which allows the performance of music once considered impossible on the instrument. Stevens' creative approach to performance, employing the "one-handed roll" and a more pianistic approach to music, has led to a busy schedule of concert appear ances it* the U.S. and in Europe. Affiliate Artists, a non profit organization, is the leading producer of resi dencies for performing ar tists in the U.S. Since its founding in 1966, Alliliate Artists has successfully brought hundreds of artists and communities together in its on-going efforts to sup port the careers of young American artists and to expand audience support for the live performing arts. The CART (Community Artist Residency Training) i program of Affiliate Artists was launched in 1978 to help communities develop exper tise in presenting the per forming arts. CART training emphasizes the-importance of commu nity-wide participation as a means of developing "people support" for the arts. The year-long program includes seminars and consultancies in all areas of arts residency management and community development, and it culmi nates in a week-long resi dency by an Affiliate Artist. The CART Week, a week of informal community appear ances, is highlighted by a public recital or concert event. The Duplin County Arts Council is dedicated to the quality of life in the county. By promoting involvement in the arts in all facets of community life, the Arts Council works to educate residents on how the arts enhance their lives. The Duplin Development Commission serves as a pro motional organization for the entire county bv working to improve economic well being, job opportunities, the tax base and living condi tions for county residents. Jan. 22 at 8 p.m.. the Howard University Cb-Mr will be in Wallace through the efforts of the Duplin County Arts Council. The group of 36 members will be in concert at the Adoram Baptist Church in downtown Wallace. This is the only North Carolina ap pearance of the versatile and celebrated Howard University Chorale. Nancy Jordan of Wallace and Johnny Williams of Teachey. board members of the Duplin County Arts Council, have been coordi nating this event. Anne Taylor of Faison is working with area music teachers to publicize this performance in the schools and to provide for refreshments to be served to the visiting students. Bond, general manager, jointly announced that the meeting will be held in the Wayne Center in Goldsboro on Tuesday, Feb. 1 beginning at 2 p.m. Hardison Re-Appointed Lieutenant Governor Jimmy Green announced the appointment of Senator Melvin R. Daniels Jr. of Elizabeth City, and the re appointments of Senators Conrad R. Duncan of Stone ville, Harold W. Hardison of * Deep Run, and Kenneth C. Royall Jr. of Durham to membership on the advisory budget commission. Their terms are for two y^ars. The commission was first established in 192S. Its pur pose is to help the Governor prepare his budget proposal.
