Agribusiness Council
Elects Officers
By Ruth Wells
At the general meeting in
January., the Duplin County
Agribusiness Council elected
new officers, received a
financial report on the 1982
Agribusiness Fair, appointed
committees for the 1983 fair,
and voted unanimously to
observe National Agricul
tural Day.
David Byrd Jr. of Route 1,
Kenansville was elected
president succeeding Roy
Houston; Lois Britt, Kenans
ville, vice president; Jack
Alphin of Mount Olive, sec
retary and treasurer, Kay
Williamson, coordinator, and
Ko\ Houston, advisor.
District directors and
ire: District I. John
Smi 1983. District II. Boyd
Barfield. 1985; District 11,
Robert Grady, 1985; District
IV, Paul Phillips, 1983; and
District V, Ruth Wells, 1983.
The 1983 Fair date was set
for the first week in October,
3 through 8. Fair coordi
nators are Roy Houston, Lois
Britt and Kay Williamson.
Fair chairpersons are: public
school coordinator, L.S. Guy;
exhibits. David Byrd; trea
surer, John Smith; facilities,
Carey Wrenn; programming.
Yvonne Patterson; catalog
and sales, Billy Thomas;
concessions, Tom Rouse; and
publicity. Ruth Wells.
Receips from all sources
for the 1982 fair were suf
ficient to take care of all
expenses leaving a small
amount to start the 1983 fair.
This balance, and much,
much, more will be needed in
manv different places, like a
livestock barn, adequate
fencing for grounds, and
money for premiums to name
a very few. Last year, being
our first year, only ribbons
were awarded but by law we
are required to give pre
miums as well.
The council voted unani
mously to observe National
Agricultural Day, March 21.
It is indeed appropriate and
fitting that agriculture, the
heartbeat of the nation, be
observed in Duplin County,
the Number I agricultural
county in the state.
Your agribusiness council
is working to make Duplin
County a better place to live
and work. The council needs
your support. If you are not a
member, please contact any
of the above officers or
directors, and help us help
each other.
