Recognized
Duplin County's top 4-H
Club members have been
honored by the Duplin
County Board of Commis
sioners at a banquet at the
Country Squire restaurant.
Paid for by the county, the
banquet recognized the work
of 80 of the county's 800 4-H
Club members. Those in-'
vited had won awards or
similar recognition for their
achievements.
Named outstanding junior
4-H members were Bernard
Hall of Route 1, Magnolia, a
member of the Stanford 4-H
Club, and Bryant Murphy of
Rose Hill, a member of the
Teachey 4-H Club.
Outstanding senior 4-H
members were Pam Kelly of
Wallace, Decca 4-H Club,
and Amy West of Route 2,
Warsaw, New Horizons 4-H
Club.
Gail Costin
The program included a
talk by Gail Costin, a former
Duplin County 4-H Club
member who is a hearing and
speech pathologist for the
New Hanover County
schools.
AGLOW
The Kenansville chapter of
Women's Aglow Fellowship
will meet Feb. 12 for fel
lowship at 8:45 and the
meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the
General Store in
Kenansville. The speaker
will be Sue Williams of
Goldsboro. according to
Linda K. Lanier of Beula
ville.
OUTSTANDING 4-H'ERS Certify,us of
appreciation were presented to the Out
standing Junior and Senior 4-H'ers at the
annual 4-H appreciation banquet held at the
Country Squire restaurant. Four-H'ers from

weekend with Mrs. Woodrow
Brinson.

Bill Spicer.

children of Matthews spent
last week here with her

Mrs. Doc Brinson and sons to

visited Mrs. Sheldon Swann
during the weekend and
attended the baptism service
for Sarah Elizabeth Vincent,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
J.W. Vincent, in the Faison
United Methodist Church on
Sunday.

Mrs. Eloise K. Ryder was
hostess for the Town &
Country Bridge Club Tues
day night with Mrs. Sue Neil
Lentz the only visiting
player. After several pro
gressions, Mrs. Ruth B.
Wells was declared high
scorer. She and Mrs. Lentz
were both given gifts. The
Valentine motif was ifced in
table appointments. For re
freshments, Mrs. ' Ryder
assisted by Mrs. Lentz
served cherry pie, salted
nuts and coffee.
Liberty Hall Bridge Club
Mrs. A.T. Outlaw was
hostess for the Liberty Hall
Bridge Club when it met last
Wednesday night. Mrs.
Martha Swann substituted
for the only absent member.
The Valentine motif was
used in table appointments.
Between progressions, Mrs.
Outlaw assisted by Mrs.
Hazel Scott and Mrs. Louise
W. Mitchell, served pound
cake topped with strawberry

ice cream. Valentine candy
and toasted pecans were also
passed to enjoy with the
coffee. Mrs. W.M. Ingram
won the high score prize.
Mrs. Swann was also given a
gift.
Visit Masonic and Eastern
Star Home

joined a busload of others
from the 8th District in
visiting the Masonic and
Eastern Star Home in
Greensboro Saturday: Celia
and J.B. Stroud. Ruby G.
Newton. Thelma B. Murphy,
Joyce and Kermit Williams,
also Hazel Holland.

Children's
Homes Board
Of Trustees
Warsaw resident John A.
Johnson has been elect t o to
the board of trustees ior the
Baptist Children's Homes of
North Carolina Inc. for the
1983-86 term.
Johnson is clerk of the
Superior Court of Duplin
County and served on the
board from 1978-81.

trustees of. the Baptist
Lhildren s Homes ot N.C.
Inc., elected by the Baptist
State Convention, are vital to
the total ministry of the
Homes." said Dr. W.R.
Waeoner. president of the
Children's Homes. "A
primary function of the trus
tees is to determine the
services and policies of the
institution. We are fortunate
to have the leadership of
John A. Johnson on our
board of trustees."
GARDEN CLUB
LUNCHEON
The Warsaw Garden Club
met at The Country Squire on I
Feb. 2 with 14 members *
present. Mrs. C.M. Rice,
president, called the meeting
to order at noon. Members
read the Warsaw Garden
Club collect. Mrs. Rice asked
for reports from different
chairmen.
Mrs. E.C. Thompson,
chairman of special projects,
gave a very encouraging
report of the Historical
Homes of Warsaw booklet.
Mrs. Herbert Best gave the
treasurer's report. It was
announced that there would
be an assortment of trees
available to all with the trees
to be ordered by Feb. 25.
Mrs. Bill Spicer showed
the members slides of the
Elizabethan Gardens.
