REYNOLDS-JACKSON ENGAGEMENT ANNOUNCED - Mr. and Mrs. Harry F. Jackson of Worthington. Ohio, announce the engagement of their daughter. Patricia Gail, to Jerald Hughes Reynolds. Reynolds is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon H. Reynolds of Kenansville. Miss Jackson is a 1980 graduate of the University of Tennessee and is currently employed by the transportation department of Duke Power Company in Charlotte. Reynolds graduat d 0rom James Kenan High School in 1971. He received hu bachelor of science and master of science degrees in zoology from North Carolina State University in Raleigh and is currently employed by Science Museums of Charlotte. Ryder was hostess for the Liberty Hall Bridge Club Wednesday night with Mrs. Sue Neil Lentz substituting for the only absent member. Be tween progressions, the hostess, assisted by Mrs. Lentz, served jello and cookies, toasted pecans and 0coffee. High scorer for the evening's plav was Mrs. Hazel W. Scott. Mrs. Barbee Bridge Hostess Hostess for the Kenans ville Kontract Klub Thursday night was Mrs. Mattie W. Barbee. All members were present. Mrs. Sheldon Swann compiled high score for the three progressions, and Mrs. George Pdnnev was a close runner-up for second high. For refreshments. M s. Murphy and Stuart Hall went to Norfolk, Va. Saturday to get Mrs. Clarence Murphy, who had been visiting the Walter B. Boones. Mrs. Gordon Kornegay visited her sister. Mrs. Ruth Tarkinton in Plymouth this last week. She was*accom panied there by another sister. Mrs. Louise Bullock of Mount Olive. While there they went with Mrs. Tarkin ton and her daughter, Mrs. Ann Collins, to Charlottes ville. Va. Mr. and Mrs. Will Mabry of Rock Hill, S.C. visited the Gordon Kornegays Saturday. Mrs. F.tlis Vestal has re turned from Slidell. La. where she has been visiting her son, Commander Brinson Vestal and family. She was accompinh-d to Slidell by Mrs. rtcrinun Rouse, who visited her daughter. Mrs. Mary Richardson. They stopped on their way home in Atlanta for a short visit with Miss Annie Laurie Vestal who returned with them to Kenansville to spend several days. Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Hewett of Wilmington spent the weekend with the Wiley T. Booths. Beulaville News Mrs P C. Shaw spent last weekend with her daughter and family. HallsvHie Baptist Youth Revival The Hallsville Baptist Church will be holding a youth revival on March 18. 19 and 20 at 7:36 p.m. The guest speaker is the Rev. Terry McGinnis. Everyone is invited to join the youth revival services. Revival Beulaville Baptist Revival services will begin at the Beulaville Baptist Church on Sunday. March 13 at II a.m. and continue Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. - Through Thursday. The evangelist will be Rob Roberts. Sandy Plain Senior Citizens The March meeting of the Sandy Plain Senior Citizens is Saturday at 6 p.m. at the educational building of the Sandy Plain Church. The program will be by Rev. Rashie Kennedy with Stephen and Swannie Thig pen singing. Bring a covered dish and a friend. Anyone is welcome to join these fellow ship meetings and programs. U.D. C. Meets The United Daughters of the Confederacy met Feb. 28 with Mrs. Lou J. Kennedy with 12 members present. The president. Mrs. Ida Miller, called the meeting to order. The ritual was given by the chaplain. Mrs. Lou J. Kennedy. The president led the pledges to thwU.S. Flag and salutes to the Confed erate and N.C. flags. Roll call and minutes were read by Mrs. Effte Hamilton. The Confederate Couriers were distributed by the president. The District meeting was announced to be at Burgaw with the coffee hour at 9:15 and meeting at 10 a.m. Peggy Thomas was ap pointed to get the door prize. Mrs. Javan Quinn gave the program on the Battle of Chicamaugua. The chapter was asked to have the Dis trict meeting in 1984. The hostess served luncheon consisting of ham. chicken casserole, sweet potato casserole, congealed salad, corn, butter beans, string beans, cranberry relish, pickles, cucumbers, biscuits, cornmeal muffins, cherry fluff and pound cake with coffee and tea. Faison News Misses Betsy and Sandra Burnett and their brother Steve, formerly of Kenans _ _ I ville, attended the formal reception held Feb. 26 at the home of their aunt and uncle. Mr. and Mrs. William Davis Jones 111 of Raleigh. They honored their daughter. Ainslie and son-in-law Robert Hart Uhl Jr., who were married Feb. 19 in Brussels. Belgium. Betsy, Sandra and Steve also attended a luncheon at the Carolina Country Club on Feb. 27 given in honor of the Uhls. Arts Society Presents Concert The Tar Heel Fine Arts Society will present in con cert Edmond Karlsrud and The Men of Song on Satur day evening. March 12 at 8 p.m. in the Kenan Memorial Auditorium in Kenansville. This is an additional concert for the 1982-83 season and is open to all persons who currently hold a 1982-83 season membership ticket. Edmond Karlsrud. the popular American bass-bari tone. is one of the most outstanding and experienced recitalists of our day. Ap pearances other than concerts and opera include performances on all the major television and radio networks and in the theatre, nightclubs, oratorio and with symphony orchestras. His extensive operatic repetoire lists over 90 roles in five languages, and in addition to the Metropolitan Opera, he has appeared with the opera companies of New Orleans, Atlanta and Seattle. Karlsrud has also gained recognition as a producer and director of such highly successful attractions as the Karlsrud Chorale, the Men of Song, the Kondoliers, the Cosmopolitans, the New York Sextet, the Concert nient, and Five on Stage. The Men of Song quartet has been rated by many critics as the finest concert quartet ever assembled. In addition to enormously popular concert appearances throughout the country, the Men of Sting have performed on television, radio, records and in the movies. Each member brings to the en semble the benefit of his own excellent individual musical background and professional experience. Plan now to enjoy this concert.
