Holy Week Services In these days when so many negative news items are emerging under the headlines of religion, it is Inspiring to take notice of an upcoming endeavor in our area which is purely re "ligious, spiritually enriching, rpnselfish in intent, and co operative in nature. ,- The endeavor is a co operative ministry project of four churches in the Calypso and Beautancus communities "which began over a year ago. Four young ministers who serve as pastors of Bear -?Marsh Baptist, Calvpso Bap tist. Calypso Presbyterian and Stanford Presbyterian led their respective churches to participate in a pioneer series of worship services during Holy Week 1982. "It was an experiment last year," Mitchell Rivenbark, pastor of BMBC said. "I didn't know how my col leagues would respond when 1 first initiated the idea last year. We built the coopera tive church services around the common denominator we have, regardless of denomi nation. which is, of course, the cross, and upon a founda tion of close friendship we share as pastors." Rivenbark continued. "We planned the services not knowing how the churches would respond, but the churches were enriched by Jhe worship and the fellow ship as was the entire com munity." ! Tuesday night's service will be held Stanford Presbyterian Church with Greg Thornton, pastor and the adult choir of Calypso Baptist leading in the wor ship. A special feature of the evening will be a special first-time musical presenta tion by The Four Church Men's Chorus. Wednesday's service will originate at Calypso Presby terian with Mitchell Riven bark and the sanctuary choir of Bear Marsh leading in the services. The pastoral ser mon to be delivered that evening is entitled "The Ways We Crucify Our Lord." The four churches will celebrate Maundy Thursday at Calvpso Baptist Church with Eleanor Alexander and the adult choir from Stanford leading in the service. The traditional Holy Communion will be served by pastors, elders and deacons from all four churches. The Good Friday service will be at Bear Marsh Baptist Church. Lewis Gallaway and the Calypso Presbyterian adult choir will lead in this beautiful candlelight service mourning the crucifixion and death of Christ. Kivenbark added, "On behalf of the four churches, let me extend a cordial invitation to the entire com munity to attend and be involved in something that is positive, constructive and in spirational ? the Holy Week Services for 1983. Warsaw United Methodist .Church Special Holy Week And Easter Celebrations Warsaw United Methodist Church will be holding special celebrations for Holy Week and the Easter season. During Holy Week. March 28 - April 1, early morning breakfasts will be held in the church's Fireside Room from 6:45 - 7:30 a.m. Along with the breakfast each morning will offer a meditation upon the ministry of Christ as he approached the cross. There is no charge and the com munity is welcome. Maundy Thursday will be. observed at 7.-30 p m- with' Tenebrae Service Grove Presbyterian Church in Kenansville invites you to its service of "Tenebrae."' a service re membering Christ's death on on the cross through sym bolism. on Good Friday. Good Friday will be observed with a service of worship focusing upon the meaning of the crucifixion beginning at 7:30 p.m. In addition to the Jaycee's Easter Sunrise Celebration at 6 a.m. and the Easter morning worship at 11 a.m.. Warsaw UMC will extend its celebrations into Easter Monday with a party espe cially for children of the Warsaw community at the Warsaw Park on Memorial Drive at the Recreation Center. This party will in clude an Easter egg hunt, kite flying and games. This is for children up to grade 6. The party will begin at 2 p.m. and end at 4 p.m. The community is welcome to all these special cele brations. The hummingbird is the only feathered bird able to fly backward.
